As I like to tell my clients, anyone at any stage of their lives can benefit from therapy. Maybe you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or life stress, etc. Therapy helps by having someone to talk with, process the stress, and formulate a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs. Therapy works best as a collaborative process between the therapist and client, working together to achieve a positive and supportive workplace where mental and emotional health can thrive.

I work with individual clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, suicidal thought, and life stressors.
As someone who has struggled with both anxiety and depression, I understand the weight that these two issues can cause in our everyday lives. I want to be able to help others not only understand, but be able to manage and work through these challenges. My main goal is to be a light to help guide you on your healing journey. To me, the best progress is made from the client-therapist relationship and it is my hope that my true authentic light and energy can help this professional relationship grow. With this in mind, I encourage my clients to go at their own pace to develop a positive healing environment.

I’ve learned a lot in community mental health, working with individuals that are depressed, anxious, suicidal . Many causes are external, either through relationships or past events, but some are internal, through biology and self-concept. I hope to help people discover themselves and how to accept themselves for who they are. I’m available Mondays and Wednesdays by telehealth and Tuesdays in person.

I specialize in work with those impacted by depression, trauma, substance abuse, suicide , anxiety, sexual assault, sexual abuse, life-transitions, and interpersonal relationship challenges.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Reaching out for support often comes during a time of crisis or after living for many years with the weight emotional pain. Bringing people from crisis to hope is the forefront of my practice. The lack of access to quality mental health care for persons of color is real, and mental health needs are at times unmet. My cultural competence through life experience has allowed me to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
