Psychosis Therapists in Detroit, MI
I am passionate about destigmatizing mental health conditions and mental health services. I believe in treating those I see for therapy as a whole person, not a list of symptoms. This means providing services that adapt to the needs of the person I am seeing at that point in time. I utilize primarily a person-centered approach that is trauma informed, neurodiverse affirming, LGBTQ+ friendly, and understanding of disability. I also believe in utilizing harm reduction strategies as appropriate.

I'm a trauma therapist serving adult and teen clients, and working from an abolitionist lens. Most of my clients have limited resources, severe symptoms, and/or long-term barriers to safety and support. It's normal for folks I work with to tell me that their trauma is not exactly "in the past."
While a lot of what I do involves traditional psychotherapy, I’m comfortable offering care in the community or at client homes, and often help with housing, income, healthcare access, or other practical needs, in addition to therapy.
I especially love supporting clients that haven’t had good experiences with providers in the past.

Balance is not something you find; it is something you create.” – Jana Kingsford
Are you searching for balance, yet questioning whether it truly exists in a world overflowing with anxiety, depression, and relentless stress? Without the right tools or support, these pressures can erode our relationships and chip away at our self-esteem.
That imbalance can show up as striving for perfection, withdrawing from others, or even shutting down completely. Yet the truth remains: whatever challenges or transitions you’re navigating, balance is within reach. It begins the moment you let go of fear and open yourself to growth.

I’m Malanna (like Madonna, but make it therapy)! I take an unorthodox, approach to therapy where I believe mental health deserves the same sincerity, attention, and respect as physical health and wellness. I never take it lightly when someone sits in front of me and trusts me with their vulnerability. That kind of trust is a privilege to hold, and I meet it with deep respect, care, and intention. I’m big on collaboration! I believe the best work happens when your self-insight meets my clinical expertise. You already hold so much wisdom about your own life, even if stress, pain, trauma, or just life itself has made it harder to see!

Psychosis Therapists
What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?
The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.
When should people seek treatment for psychosis?
People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.
What if psychosis is left untreated?
Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.
How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?
It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
