My goal as a therapist in private practice is to assist individuals in strengthening their mind-body connection through practices that lead to a less stressful and more resourceful life! My practice has a strong somatic based approach, but I am also experienced in more traditional modalities like CBT, MBSR, psychodynamic , positive psychology etc.
We all find ourselves on a different part on the spectrum, from dis-ease to wellness, at different times during our lifetime. How do we gravitate back towards well-being? That is an answer we can explore together as I accompany you through your journey to health! I have worked with adults in all levels of care and advocated for destigmatizing the need for therapy! My career started in 2008 working with severely mentally ill in crisis intervention for suicidal and homicidal clients. I now dedicate my time in healing mostly women and other minorities from trauma, and liberating them from daily norm imposed stress.

I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults, College students and adolescents. This approach allows you to express internal thoughts and feelings and worries you have, and it can begin to help you understand them in a deeper way. Many people suffer from negative thinking and get stuck in that state of mind, thinking those feelings are their reality. It is only a partial state of mind, it holds us back from being more productive and enjoying life.

I take an integrative approach to therapy, rooted in psychodynamic and relational perspectives.
My hope as a therapist is to work with the client to cultivate a safe and courageous space to begin to explore from a holistic lens. We each come into this work through a unique context of intersecting identities and experiences that deserve to be honored. My work is trauma informed and I understand trauma as something that can be experienced interpersonally, generationally, and systemically.

My preferred modalities include: cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic , mindfulness, and solution focused/problem solving.
I believe that people are so close to their own life’s challenges and stressors that they often miss what is right in front of them. Therapy provides an opportunity to step back and regain perspective. I know that each individual is an expert in their own lives, and at the end of the day, only they know what is best for them. Through therapy, I create a supportive and nonjudgmental space for you to speak your truth and look at things in a different way. I will point out and empower you to use your strengths to your advantage. Finally, I will sprinkle in some humor, swear words, and quote The Office because laughter is important.

I have training and experience in using psychodynamic , relational, interpersonal, dialectical, and cognitive-behavioral techniques in therapy.
In therapy, I try to incorporate an understanding of the impact of culture on mental health using an intersectionist framework. Whether looking at the intersection of race and gender or sexual orientation, age, and religion, at the heart of each individual is a nexus of several different social identities, which are associated with different cultural norms. At any given time, one or multiple identities may be made salient. These beliefs and values affect the expression of psychological distress, and therefore should be used to inform treatment.

(Currently not accepting new clients) Feeling lost, alone, maybe intimidated by the changes that this time of uncertainty can bring? Transitions in life can leave us questioning our identities and self concept. Particularly, the transition into new roles like parenthood and pregnancy, which can be isolating bringing about identity shifts, confusion and the mourning of what once was with the adjustment to the new norm. These transitions can also cause stress in our interpersonal connections.I implement an approach individualized to each client that is grounded in evidence based CBT and psychodynamic interventions.

My practice draws from a variety of fields including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Self Compassion, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, and Psychodynamic Therapy from a trauma-sensitive approach.
My primary goal as a therapist is to assist you in achieving your goals and supporting you through any adversities that may come your way. Therapy is not a “one size fits all” approach—each client is unique and has different techniques that work and do not work to achieve their goals. I am passionate and dedicated to the mental health field, and I believe each client is more than their symptoms and should be treated with dignity and respect. I graduated with a BA in Psychology and received my MSW from the University of Michigan, where I specialized in the area of Interpersonal Practice with a concentration in Mental Health.

I often take psychodynamic and philosophical approaches as well, working with concepts such as meaning, belief, and values, so that you can improve your sense of self within the larger world.
I work with individuals who know things need to change, but find themselves held back and unsure of their next steps. Maybe you're usually in control of life, but now have decided that you, of all people, need support. It could be a need for clarity within yourself, making future changes, or healing old wounds. Let's discuss what it is that you feel drawn to discover in your experience with therapy.

I integrate a strength-based, healing centered approach drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic , mindfulness, and harm reduction techniques to support the individual goals of each client.
As a therapist with multiple intersecting identities, I understand our mental states are products of our social and environmental states. I aim to work collaboratively with the client to help access the strengths and resources they inherently possess. My areas of clinical interest include anxiety, depression, substance use, life transitions, grief, stress, trauma and identity concerns. I have a particular interest in supporting those who are LGBTQIA+ identified and other marginalized and oppressed populations.

I recognize that we all have great potential and, as such, utilize a strength-based, psychodynamic approach to help clients recognize their true strengths.
I focus on the connectedness among developmental, social, relational, and cultural factors. I have experience working with a diverse population of clients, including children, adolescents, adults, and families. I work with clients dealing with many different issues. I have worked with clients from a myriad of racial and ethnic backgrounds but have focused experience working with Black and Native American clients striving to work through race-related stress and racial identity concerns. I work with sexual identity and gender identity concerns (e.g., trans, questioning, gender non-conforming).

Whether that consists of relationship or family concerns, or school or work stresses, I can help to navigate the changes that life brings. We will work together to find the deeper meaning of what you are feeling and use that to bring positive change to your life.

As someone who has struggled with both anxiety and depression, I understand the weight that these two issues can cause in our everyday lives. I want to be able to help others not only understand, but be able to manage and work through these challenges. My main goal is to be a light to help guide you on your healing journey. To me, the best progress is made from the client-therapist relationship and it is my hope that my true authentic light and energy can help this professional relationship grow. With this in mind, I encourage my clients to go at their own pace to develop a positive healing environment.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
