Utilizing evidence based practices like CBT, mindfulness, and others, we can work together on developing a toolbox full of coping skills!.
Anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome, and other various mental health concerns can feel so defeating, exhausting and cause us unwanted stress. A common saying is "the first step to healing is talking about it", and I find this to be so true. Finding a safe space to share what is causing us harm is integral to healing, and the first step is finding that space for yourself. Asking for help is a big barrier to tackle, feeling like a weakness, when in actuality this is a sign of strength.

My personal practice typically involves a combination of Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy through Internal Family Systems, Existential, and Polyvagal lenses.
I enjoy working with LGBTQIA+, Ethically Non-monogamous, Chronically Ill, & Neurodivergent clients. Most of my clinical experience has been with clients whose identities exist at these intersections, primarily in connection to complex Trauma histories. I want to help you build the life you want to be living by aiding you in healing the unresolved wounds in your nervous system. We begin by collaborating in order to understand your system's unique functioning - using that insight, we will work together to build self-worth, self-esteem, and self-compassion.

Mindfulness techniques can help to stay in the present and stay grounded and not feel so anxious about what the future holds.
I probably don’t need to tell you we’re living in a racist, sexist, heteronormative, capitalist dystopian nightmare in a slow and painful collapse. It’s hard to cope with that knowledge while dealing with day-to-day nonsense, on top of reliving past trauma on a regular basis. It’s a lot and it’s heavy and it sucks. Some people turn to substances and other vices to cope.

With more than 10 years of experience, I utilize cognitive behavior, person-centered, and solution-focused therapies with a mindfulness approach.
Sometimes we need to understand what brought us to this point in life. Many individuals experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstance, others experience fear and hopelessness. Whether it's feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, or feeling stuck and defeated because you haven't reached a life goal -- having someone to help guide you through those issues may be what you need. Therapy is an opportunity to talk with someone trained to listen in a confidential, safe space by providing a non-judgmental and supportive environment to help you heal and grow.

At times life’s struggles can lead to a need to adjust to things thrown your way unexpectedly. When feelings of anxiety, sadness or adjustments become overwhelming, we may benefit from an objective partner to help us think things through and sort out our choices. I specialize in working with Black, BIPOC, African American teens and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, chronic health concerns, work related issues and life transitions. If you could benefit from a safe space, an empathetic ear, a non-judgmental voice or a reflective place of insight, my training and experience can be of assistance to you.

Using a variety of techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR we will help you find ways to skillfully manage your emotions.
This constant anxiety, followed by crippling bouts of depression, is preventing you from living your life. Even on good days, your negative self-talk beats you into a sleepy paralysis. Everyone can be hard on themselves, but your mind has become downright violent. It’s exhausting trying to anticipate when it will strike next. You can’t trust your own thoughts. It’s obvious that your painful past isn’t going away on its own. It takes all you’ve got to get through the day. And most days it takes more than that. Stuck in a vicious cycle with no end in sight, you know you can’t handle this alone anymore. But what choice do you have?

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
