I offer a judgment free space for LGBTQIA or neurodivergent adolescents and adults who are experiencing shame and anxiety.
You want to feel good about yourself but you don’t. You feel different, like other people don’t understand you, and you just want to be normal. You have so much shame about the things you’ve done or been through that it seems impossible that you’d ever love yourself. On top of that, you’re constantly anxious or depressed about something (or nothing!) and your symptoms leave you feeling like something is seriously wrong with you. All you want is to feel better about yourself and to feel happier and more at peace with your life. You want to be able to be your true self in your relationships and to feel loved and accepted for it.

In addition to the things listed above, I have extensive experience working with parents that are also caregivers to their children, specifically children with Autism and ADHD.
Life is always changing. At times, those changes can bring along an increase in feelings of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt. I work with individuals to build coping skills to manage identity issues, chronic and acute stress, family dynamic issues and adjust to chronic pain or disability.

Very often, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Disabled, and Neurodivergent people are denied seats at tables, and blocked from rooms that would make life more accessible.
As a clinician, I am firmly antiracist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, poly-affirming, and judgment-free. I have a particular interest in trauma-informed care, substance-use recovery, ADHD/AuDHD management, building boundaries, learning self-esteem/self-trust, and working with queer and BIPOC individuals and families who have been marginalized based on their identity.

I have a background of working with teens and adults on the autism spectrum both in the psychotherapy and community setting.
Some of the modalities that I use in therapy are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Humanistic Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychoeducation. I think it is important to tailor the therapy session to the client, because the therapy hour is their time.

Specializing in mood disorders, trauma, ADHD and autism, I offer a space where you can unpack things at your own pace with a neuro-affirming and LGBTQ+ affirming practitioner.
You don’t have to explain why things feel harder than they should. You’re not too sensitive, too intense, or too complicated. You’re just you, and that’s enough. Therapy should feel like a place where you can breathe, not perform. Maybe you have spent a lifetime adapting, second-guessing yourself, or trying to meet expectations that don’t quite fit. Maybe you feel misunderstood, like you’re moving through life on a different frequency. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, relationships, past experiences, or just trying to figure some things out, you don’t have to do it alone. Serving those in Michigan, statewide, via telehealth.

Growing the life you want We have one life that we get to live, and so we only have one chance to find and create meaning for our lives. So often we can be hindered by our fears and from the painful points of resistance that we have encountered along the way. Those points of struggle look different for each person, and many times can stay with us for a long time. But we can grow and recover, and taking the time to slow down and care for ourselves is a liberating experience.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
