I consider therapy a gift where you are able to detox from family pain and drama, remove the obstacles to your own growth and happiness -- and live the life you were meant to live. In our work together you will begin to know your self. Deep within each of us is the longing for happiness. Happiness does not depend on outer circumstances or how other people behave, it’s created with our innermost feelings and sense of well-being. My practice offers individual, couples and family sessions for all ages. My office is located on the first floor inside the beautiful Park Shelton building in Midtown Detroit and my fees are reasonable.

The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are -Joseph Campbell. Together, we can really hone in on what it is you are wanting for yourself and finding a path forward, that best suites you. Often, the work is getting back in touch with your Self in a deeper way—like re-calibrating your inner compass. My understanding of counseling comes from holistic, somatic and trauma-informed approaches that incorporate mind, body, and soul such as Somatic Experiencing, Jungian, transpersonal, mindfulness, attachment, and creative expression. I have both a in person and virtual sandtray!

My clients come to therapy because they are looking for support in facing life transitions; they may be dealing with a health diagnosis, new parenting stage, or shifting family dynamics. Often, when life is difficult or not going the way we had planned, we fight against what IS with what we think it should be. My clients want to find joy and purpose in the life they have and are looking for a safe place to explore their life stories to find strength and light. I also work with interracial families on racial identity development and with white folks wanting to do antiracist work while exploring what it means to be white.

I believe that therapy is an ongoing conversation spread out over a period of time where I, as your therapist, get to know you and try to understand what is creating difficulty in your life. I believe that my job is to help create a nonjudgmental and comforting relationship where we can begin to understand you - together. I genuinely care about those I work with, and I believe this curious and compassionate approach is ultimately what makes therapy worthwhile. By understanding you and your challenges, we can help you take steps to truly improve your life.

I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults, College students and adolescents. This approach allows you to express internal thoughts and feelings and worries you have, and it can begin to help you understand them in a deeper way. Many people suffer from negative thinking and get stuck in that state of mind, thinking those feelings are their reality. It is only a partial state of mind, it holds us back from being more productive and enjoying life.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
