I generally begin therapy by establishing a framework in psychoeducation, then applying a customized approach to treat anxiety, depression, gender/sexual identity, men's issues, couples/family relationships, grief and loss, eating disorders, adjustment and transitions, cultural issues, addiction/substance use, and chronic health conditions, among others.
Hi there. I am a fully licensed clinician with Master of Social Work from Detroit's own Wayne State University. I commend your effort and resolve to seek therapy, as I know what it takes to reach out. I am glad to tackle any issue with you, and I use a variety of strategies and modalities including but not limited to Psychoeducation, Empowerment, CBT, Somatic and Mindfulness techniques, and Trauma-Focused Therapy to serve adolescents and adults age 13+ to resolve conflicts in relationship or identity, adjustment to life transitions, or cope with loss. I work both in-office or via telehealth.

Mindfulness techniques can help to stay in the present and stay grounded and not feel so anxious about what the future holds.
I probably don’t need to tell you we’re living in a racist, sexist, heteronormative, capitalist dystopian nightmare in a slow and painful collapse. It’s hard to cope with that knowledge while dealing with day-to-day nonsense, on top of reliving past trauma on a regular basis. It’s a lot and it’s heavy and it sucks. Some people turn to substances and other vices to cope.

Sometimes you may become overwhelmed due to changes in routine or major events such as a new school, grades, finances, becoming a new parent, losing a loved one, divorce, or conflict in relationships. These life events may lead to anxiety, low self esteem, lack of motivation, and loss of direction. These struggles appear in different ways for each person and lasts for varying amounts of time. However, we can not always recover on our own due to depression, anxiety, past trauma, or other underlying influence. I am a therapist (LPC), here to help you on your journey to healing and becoming your best self.

Sometimes we need to understand what brought us to this point in life. Many individuals experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstance, others experience fear and hopelessness. Whether it's feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, or feeling stuck and defeated because you haven't reached a life goal -- having someone to help guide you through those issues may be what you need. Therapy is an opportunity to talk with someone trained to listen in a confidential, safe space by providing a non-judgmental and supportive environment to help you heal and grow.

As an experienced, trauma and anxiety therapist, I believe that laying a foundation of self-love along with building the insight and skills you need, can help you to weather any storm.
You're a young adult who's tired of feeling so stressed, overwhelmed, and drained. You’re fed up with pretending everything is ok, when it’s not. You've had something happen recently that has brought it all up and all you know is that you’re ready to move on from feeling like this. You might have been considering therapy for a while but now you’re ready. Ready to understand why you feel the way that you do. Ready to spend less energy on your thoughts and feelings so you have more energy to put into your life and yourself. Most of all, you’re ready to get unstuck, decide what to do, and feel happier with yourself and your life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
