Does it feel like anxiety is constantly in the driver's seat, making everyday life feel overwhelming? Are you carrying the heavy weight of past trauma, finding it hard to fully connect with yourself or others? Perhaps you're feeling stuck, disconnected, or just not quite like yourself anymore, longing for a sense of peace and wholeness. You might be experiencing chronic pain that's intertwined with your emotional well-being, or finding that stress and difficult experiences are impacting your physical health. As a health psychologist and marathon runner, I deeply understand the powerful connection between your mind and body.

Thus, I practice from an existential-humanistic-relational lens so I can naturally personalize therapy with evidence-based techniques (e.g., CBT, SFT, ACT) and psychological theories (e.g., identity, attachment, multicultural) necessary for understanding clients' intersectionality.
My clinical approach values the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for transformative change and therapy as a training ground for clients to alleviate distress (e.g., anxiety, depression, trauma), while exploring existential themes (e.g., authenticity, choice, meaning), interpersonal dynamics (e.g., relating to others), and client-specific goals.

Offering services to both Michigan and North Carolina residents, I bring a practical approach to therapy, using a mix of CBT, IFS, and ACT.
Hi, I’m Jamica Cobbs, and therapy with me is down-to-earth, honest, and focused on real change.
Anxiety and depression can show up as overthinking, burnout, irritability, or a constant sense that something isn’t right—even if you can’t explain why. My approach is grounded in the fact that we all need space to figure things out sometimes—and tools that actually help.
My approach is practical and collaborative so together, we’ll work on strategies you can use in real life—not just in session. You don’t need to have all the answers before starting therapy. You just need a space to start sorting through it—and that’s where I come in!

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
