I am a clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I utilize evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based approaches to clinical care. I have specialized training in Trauma Focused CBT for treating individuals who have a history of trauma. I am also experienced in the treatment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and disruptive behavior disorders.

Deborah Schiffer is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan. She has over 25 years of experience partnering with adults, families, children, and adolescents seeking to treat a variety of struggles such as anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues, parenting concerns, and more. She completed her Bachelor of Arts from University of Michigan and received her Master of Arts in Counseling from Oakland University. Deb utilizes a variety of treatment modalities to meet the individual needs of each client.

I consider it a privilege to work alongside others who are going through a difficult time. I have seen many occasions in which difficult times become transitions into a more meaningful and gratifying life. My desire is to build a trusting relationship with you so that you feel free to discuss any and all of your concerns. Together we will discuss your goals for change and the best way for us to achieve them. I have over 21 years of experience providing psychotherapy, as well as considerable experience prior to obtaining my Masters.

We start therapy due to situational stressors or an ongoing stressor, such as mood disorders, anxiety or depression. I have been providing guidance, coaching and understanding for over 9 years. Our brains as well as our bodies are complicated yet amazing! To maintain mind, body and spiritual balance is difficult, but not impossible, As a therapist, I have experience working with adults, teens, and children. I specialize in working with individuals with Trauma, anxiety, depression and ADHD. My role, as a therapist is to support each client in learning how to listen and properly respond to their mind/bodies on a daily basis.

The foundation of counseling should be a healthy therapeutic relationship between counselor and client. I help individuals learn about themselves and get more of an understanding of why they feel what they feel. Working with an individual to establish what and why when solving a particular problem should be a collaborative effort. I empower the individual by helping them realize that they do have the tools to be able to handle what life throws at them. We may not be able to control the world around us but we are in control of our own decisions and how we react.

I always say, "I don't do nails, hair or surgery so our progress is based on how you feel with me and the trust we establish". I have extensive training in trauma and EMDR through the International Association (EMDRIA) as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
