In my personal and professional experience, I have seen therapy change lives. I recommend therapy for anyone, even those not in crisis. My practice is person-centered . I believe therapy is a conversation, and comfortability with your therapist is key. In my previous career as a television producer, I had to rely heavily on my communication skills, which feed directly into what I am doing now with my clients. Communication and understanding are the backbone of my therapy practice. I do individual sessions with kids, pre-teens, adolescents, adults, and work with families, and couples.

I'm trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Grief and Trauma therapy. I utilize a wide range of other treatment methods as well to include cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, family systems, and person- centered. I focus on creating an environment of acceptance and respect that is free of judgement.

When it comes to everyday life, we all can agree that it can be a never ending climb to our desirable selves. I am a clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I utilize evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based approaches to clinical care. I have specialized training in Trauma Focused CBT for treating individuals who have a history of trauma. I am also experienced in the treatment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and disruptive behavior disorders.

We start therapy due to situational stressors or an ongoing stressor, such as mood disorders, anxiety or depression. I have been providing guidance, coaching and understanding for over 9 years. Our brains as well as our bodies are complicated yet amazing! To maintain mind, body and spiritual balance is difficult, but not impossible, As a therapist, I have experience working with adults, teens, and children. I specialize in working with individuals with Trauma, anxiety, depression and ADHD. My role, as a therapist is to support each client in learning how to listen and properly respond to their mind/bodies on a daily basis.

My approach to therapy is based on the idea that each person has gifts, passions and skills that can be tapped into to guide them toward an authentic, value-based life. My goal is to partner with you to provide a safe, non-judgmental space that allows for reflection, healing from past emotional wounds, and growth by establishing new coping skills to replace old patterns of thinking and behaving. I have extensive training in trauma and EMDR through the International Association (EMDRIA) as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Deborah Schiffer is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan. She has over 25 years of experience partnering with adults, families, children, and adolescents seeking to treat a variety of struggles such as anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues, parenting concerns, and more. She completed her Bachelor of Arts from University of Michigan and received her Master of Arts in Counseling from Oakland University. Deb utilizes a variety of treatment modalities to meet the individual needs of each client.

I specialize in working with adults presenting with adjustment disorders, relationship issues, and mood disorders, along with depression, and anxiety. I work with children and teens who display attention deficit as well as behavioral problems. I work on identifying barriers to personal growth and develop individualized strategies to overcome these barriers. My therapeutic goals include improved self awareness and coping abilities.
