I believe in a holistic approach to wellness. Our mind and body are connected to make up who we are. It is often hard work to get better and it requires commitment and patience. There will be times you will want to give up, however, know that I will be with you throughout the healing process. I will listen with an open mind and sometimes push you a little out of your comfort zone. My goal is to help you heal past hurts, hang ups and traumas.

Using IFS and blending in practical, neurodivergent (especially ADHD and Autistic) friendly strategies we'll take your brain out of overdrive.
1 weekly spot left as of June 3. Overwhelm has you shutting down again. There are a ton of things to do, but the energy and motivation is nowhere to be found. What you always seem to be able to do is get stuck thinking. Planning, problem solving, analyzing, preparing, and yes, worrying, take up most of your brain space. No wonder you're exhausted, anxious, and overwhelmed! Worse, you're snapping at your family too. I'm confident that if thinking could get you out of this, it would have by now. Let's try something different with someone who knows more than a thing or two about how to calm overthinking.

I am fully trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, EMDR, and Level 1 Internal Family Systems.
I am passionate about helping women & adolescents who are going through the hardships life can bring us. Living in today's society brings challenges that can feel suffocating on top of daily life tasks and hardships. Avoiding painful areas of our lives can lead to unhealthy habits to cover up those feelings, however dulling the pain with harmful and/or addictive behaviors can further add hurt to ourselves and the ones around us. We each have strengths and assets, instead of avoiding the challenging areas, I encourage clients to engage in personal growth and exploration, to dig in and discover the areas they can evolve and grow.

I am IFS informed and often utilize meditation to explore parts that remain stuck in past trauma beliefs and narratives.
I work with people who kept the peace by losing themselves. Who learned young that survival meant silence—and they’re finally ready to speak. I work with adults still carrying the scars of childhood trauma. The ones who had to grow up too fast. The ones who were parentified, gaslit, ignored, or used. I work with men who were never allowed to be soft, and women who were told their worth was in their ability to be small, agreeable, and pleasing. I work with people who are angry, anxious, numb, perfectionistic, avoidant, over-functioning—or just deeply, deeply tired.

Still Water Professional Counseling, LLC
Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, CSAT, EMDR
Midland, MI 48640
Our counselors have been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems) and (Children's Play Therapy) in order to provide effective therapy to address trauma and restore relationships.
Life is a journey that includes joy, as well as pain and trauma. When the effects of trauma go untreated, they negatively affect relationships and evolve into issues like depression, anxiety, or addiction. As therapists, we understand the hopelessness of depression, the pain of betrayal, and the gripping nature of addiction.

Drawing from Internal Family Systems (parts work), somatic therapy, and psychodynamic approaches, I take a trauma-informed lens that honors the connection between mind and body — making room for experiences held in the nervous system to be gently processed and released.
There's a kind of exhaustion that comes from holding it all together — managing anxiety, grief, a hard transition, or relationships that keep leaving you depleted — while quietly wondering when something will actually shift. You may have done the work of "coping" for a long time. What you're looking for now is something deeper: a space to meet yourself with honesty, slow down, and tend to what's underneath. Together, we'll explore your inner world with curiosity and compassion, bringing awareness to the patterns and emotions that shape how you move through life.I offer a warm, steady space that respects your pace.

I approach treatment with an integrated psychodynamic, internal family systems, and narrative therapy lens.
I enjoy working with adolescents, teens, and adults as they explore their identities and core values, process trauma, and find meaning in their experiences. My experiences growing up in a rural community, serving in the church, in human resources, and in social justice work have made me passionate about walking alongside people who have experienced marginalization and trauma in the workplace, in the church, at school, and in their communities – especially around issues related to sexuality and gender. And if you identify as a gamer, a nerd, or a geek, we will have a lot of shared language to do this work together!

Life stages and transitions bring with them many joys, challenges and uncertainties. Mental, emotional and spiritual obstacles often leave us stuck or prevent us from fully realizing the joy and peace we desire in life. Are you familiar with feelings of despair, hopelessness, anxiety, confusion and self-doubt among others? Do your children or adolescents struggle in this way? Are you experiencing a difficult time moving forward? My objective in therapy is to validate your experience as an individual, couple or family. Through practical learnings and education, I will work alongside you to provide hope and help toward healing.

I use Internal Family Systems to inform all the work I do with people.
Change is possible in all of us, even when it seems like we have been stuck in place for as long as we can remember. I believe that life happens, and there are circumstances that are out of our control that can cause us great pain and difficulties. These circumstances do not have to define who we are or how we live. I believe through a therapeutic relationship people can heal and lives can be improved. Together we will work towards building a safe and comfortable environment to allow change to begin.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
