I offer Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing ( EMDR) therapy for depression, anxiety, and trauma.
I believe in a holistic approach to wellness. Our mind and body are connected to make up who we are. It is often hard work to get better and it requires commitment and patience. There will be times you will want to give up, however, know that I will be with you throughout the healing process. I will listen with an open mind and sometimes push you a little out of your comfort zone. My goal is to help you heal past hurts, hang ups and traumas.

Intensive treatment is one to two day long EMDR sessions.
If you were told you did not matter while growing up—whether through actions or words—it can affect your ability to recognize your worth. Growing up in an environment fraught with alcohol abuse, religious trauma, homophobia, emotional abuse, or excessive criticism can lead to feelings of worthlessness, shame, and self-hatred. This may result in seeking validation from others, fearing disapproval, causing you to prioritize the needs of others over your own. When you struggle to recognize your worth, you may find it hard to connect with others, feel undervalued in your career, and seek unhealthy ways to cope with your emotions.

I am trained in TFCBT, EMDR, and DBT.
When thinking about the clients I most enjoy working with I imagine the people who are willing to put in the work, even when it can be challenging. They want to know more about themselves, their experience and how to be the best version of themselves. Willing to explore how their experiences and relationships have shaped them over the years as well as how to heal from some of them as well. It can be difficult at times to determine exact goals prior to coming into therapy so we can figure those out together.

I have received extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy with Adolescents, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and Substance Abuse but utilize other eclectic counseling techniques as well, pulling from other orientations as beneficial and necessary.
I am passionate about working with individuals who feel that life is unmanageable and they feel out of step with the world. Often these are individuals with a trauma history, who are struggling with intense emotions or relationships they can’t manage. Feeling "out of step" can lead to feelings of self judgment and isolation. When invited into that space of struggle I will seek to provide a space for you to gain skills, find support to increase connections, safety and individual strength.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
