Many of the people who come to my practice have reached a point where they know something needs to change, but they're not sure how to make it happen. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief, substance use concerns, low self-esteem, or overwhelming life stress. Others come to us feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns, disconnected from the people they love, or uncertain about their next steps. Our ideal clients are individuals who are ready to better understand themselves and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges and who may also be hesitant to reach out for help.

You've spent years taking care of others, your family, your co-workers, your community, and somewhere along the way, perhaps you stopped feeling like yourself. You might notice tension that never really leaves, sleep that doesn't restore you, or a sense of guilt for not "handling things better." Perhaps this is affecting your body, your relationships, and in quiet moments with yourself you feel the weight. You want to feel in control again, to move from surviving to thriving, living with purpose and inspiration.

You may be carrying the weight of past trauma, navigating deep grief, or feeling like your emotions take over your life. My clients are often compassionate, capable people who feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. They want tools that work in real life, not just in theory — and they want to feel both understood and challenged toward growth. I specialize in helping people find the balance between accepting where they are and creating meaningful change.

Change starts with healthy reflection, interpretation, and ultimately insight and understanding. This change can be accelerated through therapy. There is no "one size fits all" as we all have unique experiences, needs, and differences that brought us to where we are at this moment, and then the next. Expect customized attention that strategically fits you and your lifestyle. On relational note, I am a father and married for 30+ years. I understand the difficulties of work/life balance, the evolution of raising children through to adulthood, emancipating from home, beginning careers, marrying, and starting their own families.

It was out of my experience pursuing different professional endeavors after getting my degree in Business Marketing - small business start ups, non-profit development and management, career advisement, and teaching art workshops to adults and teens - that I discovered my passion for walking with teens, adults, and couples through counseling. This process led to my getting my Master of Arts in Counseling and has shaped a caring understanding of others who grapple with life’s challenges, disappointments, traumas, unmet longings, and distant dreams.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
