I treat patients across the lifespan: women's issues , adults, adolescents, children & couples).
Client needs are my FIRST priority. I am a specialist in evidence-based treatments (EBT), which radically improves my client's success rates, increases effectiveness of treatment, and gets results quickly. The majority of my client's report improvements, within the first session: life-functioning (work- home-school-relationships) and report immediate reduction in symptoms. Reducing anxiety/panic, decreasing depression, developing stronger coping strategies to stress and balancing mood dysregulation are my specialty, as symptoms can result from adjustment challenges to sudden life changes: parenthood/divorce/grief/college. We collaborate on thinking traps, tracking triggers, modifying behavior, successful coping skills and strengthening resiliency.

Being a parent, whether you are at the stage of trying to conceive or amid parenting chaos, can be both overwhelming and joyful. We face so much pressure as parents today and it can be really challenging to navigate. It can lead to feelings of worthlessness, sadness, increased fatigue, low motivation, overthinking, and difficulty sleeping. These challenges can also negatively impact partnerships, making two partners feel isolated and alone while in a relationship.

Have you experienced a traumatic event in your life? Domestic violence, sexual assault, grief/loss, divorce or narcissistic abuse are a few life events that can be traumatic for some. Experiencing a trauma can leave you feeling isolated, lonely and scared. You may have trouble sleeping, relaxing or deepening your relationships and connections with others. You may experience physiological symptoms as well as your body is in "fight or flight" mode. Do you desire to have the ability to rest, relax and revitalize? I invite you to imagine a life free of fear. What does that look like for you?

You’re tired of feeling like a failure when it comes to your life and you’re ready to nourish yourself. I know this might be hard to believe, but the truth is, our bodies are so wise. I am here to guide you through possibly the most terrifying thing you will ever do, learning to listen to your body and process its experience. I specialize in working with young adults who have experienced childhood or recent sexual trauma and fellow therapists. Talk therapy is great, learning to express emotions through art-making and somatic body movement is better. With me, you can do both.

You're doing all the right things for self-care but rarely feel recharged. You may have been to therapy before, and while it was hopefully helpful, you keep finding yourself stuck in the same old patterns. You've been called "sensitive" your whole life and often feel misunderstood. You feel drained and depleted at the end of the day because everyone is always needing something from you, yet you have trouble sleeping. You struggle to show yourself the same empathy and kindness you so easily give others. You frequently feel overwhelmed and worried, are hard on yourself, and feel guilty saying "no" and setting boundaries. I got you.

I believe that people are so close to their own life’s challenges and stressors that they often miss what is right in front of them. Therapy provides an opportunity to step back and regain perspective. I know that each individual is an expert in their own lives, and at the end of the day, only they know what is best for them. Through therapy, I create a supportive and nonjudgmental space for you to speak your truth and look at things in a different way. I will point out and empower you to use your strengths to your advantage. Finally, I will sprinkle in some humor, swear words, and quote The Office because laughter is important.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
