Most of my most current clients are adolescents and young adults wanting to uderstand why they are not satisfied with their lives. Most issues involve their relationships: Family, friend, sexual, work, or school. With the increased stress of the pandemic and economic insecurities today, everything is magnified and more difficult. What most clients want is to feel what they believe was normal again. Every story is unique and individual. No treatment plan is based on a cookie cutter approach. Your treatment is based on your needs and desires. You are a partner in your treatment. Actually you are in charge. I'm there to help you.

Counseling involves the sharing of personal struggles and concerns with a professional who is trained in listening and helping that person or persons achieve resolution or acceptance with their problems or concerns. Counseling is a relatively short-term, interpersonal; theory based professional activity guided by ethical and legal standards that focuses on assisting people in understanding their personal situations. The general goals for the client are that he or she can identify the issues they wish to resolve or understand better and to develop a plan of action.

Seeing a therapist doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you. It means that you may be seeking clarity in some areas in your life, or wanting to work through complex emotions. It may mean you are working through a traumatic experience or challenging negative thinking patterns. Some people come to therapy to learn new ways to cope with difficult situations, or they may be focused on personal growth. Whatever the reason you are considering therapy, I can help you increase your understanding of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and explore areas in your life that you would like to improve in a compassionate and empathic space.

I believe therapy is an opportunity for people to engage in a collaborative process that focuses on achieving important goals in one's life; such as self-exploration/knowledge, and an improved ability to manage problems. I utilize a supportive and empathetic approach in my work in order to foster a comfortable environment in which the goals of our work can be achieved. I will assist you in the therapeutic process by offering helpful feedback, insight/observations, and questions which will promote further understanding. I am here to help you live a life that is more pleasurable and fulfilling.

You’re defeated, broken, and feeling trapped in your past. Life has not been easy for you and along the way you seem to have lost who you are. The trauma you have experienced is affecting you daily, making you feel helpless. Unable to love yourself you struggle to set and maintain boundaries. The pressure to please others is exhausting and you can't seem to find balance or support in your life. Your history of abuse triggers you to impulsively react- rather than logically respond during difficult situations. You’re looking for guidance to process through all the baggage, uncertainty, and stress.

Treating patients (adolescents, teens, and adults) suffering from symptoms of anxiety, depression, anger, aggression, mood dysregulation, trauma, behavioral difficulties, and other mental health concerns. Treatment is provided to patients and their families who are seeking improvement in their daily functioning, including work, school, relationships, and family dynamics. Patients are the experts on themselves, and should be willing and able to actively participate in the therapeutic process, which may include the exploration and practice of alternative coping skills.

You are not alone when having difficulty dealing with the storms of life. Many of us experience challenges, yet oftentimes it is difficult to find a safe person and space to express these concerns without being judged. Life changes constantly and sometimes every day events leave you feeling overwhelmed, drained and unmotivated. Each day can be extremely difficult for you. Constant demands of family, work and relationships are stressful, and you know it’s time to make some changes. Losses of all kinds whether the loss of a loved one, job, or relationship, can trigger a mirage of emotions or feelings of lack of control.

With over 23 years of experience, I work compassionately with individuals to help alleviate the painful symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, trauma, and loss. Life transitions and events including relationship issues, college, marriage, childbirth, divorce, death of a loved one, chronic illness, and retirement present new challenges and often touch upon unresolved past issues as well. Working collaboratively with clients through insight oriented psychotherapy, I can help to enhance one's ability to make desired life changes, and to provide a greater sense of well being overall.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
