Most of my most current clients are adolescents and young adults wanting to uderstand why they are not satisfied with their lives. Most issues involve their relationships: Family , friend, sexual, work, or school. With the increased stress of the pandemic and economic insecurities today, everything is magnified and more difficult. What most clients want is to feel what they believe was normal again. Every story is unique and individual. No treatment plan is based on a cookie cutter approach. Your treatment is based on your needs and desires. You are a partner in your treatment. Actually you are in charge. I'm there to help you.

Family consultations are also available when appropriate.
I offer insight-oriented psychotherapy to women struggling to navigate through complicated, painful, developmental life transitions such as pregnancy, the postpartum period, new marriage, divorce, child rearing, empty-nesting, menopause, etc. Under these conditions of exceptional stress, past experiences and feelings often automatically, strongly influence current emotions and decisions. Sometimes these coping strategies work well, but sometimes they may actually be counter-productive. Having self-awareness of connections between past and present from therapy can helpful in making healthier, more adaptive choices. In this way, it can actually turn some of the hardest times in life into opportunities for growth.

Treating patients (adolescents, teens, and adults) suffering from symptoms of anxiety, depression, anger, aggression, mood dysregulation, trauma, behavioral difficulties, and other mental health concerns. Treatment is provided to patients and their families who are seeking improvement in their daily functioning, including work, school, relationships, and family dynamics. Patients are the experts on themselves, and should be willing and able to actively participate in the therapeutic process, which may include the exploration and practice of alternative coping skills.

Most often I work with people seeking help with the common challenges of adult life: relationship/ family issues; grief and loss; adult child recovery; depression; codependency; addictions; health concerns; career/financial challenges; and unfulfilled spiritual yearnings - drawing from cognitive-behaviorial, psychodynamic, and transpersonal methodology.
Finding the best individual and marriage therapist for you can seem daunting. Talking to us, asking questions, paying attention to your feelings and intuition, all help. My 30 years experience as a compassionate, well-trained psychotherapist give me the background and skills to support you in achieving your goals, which might include: resolving immediate symptoms; recognizing and appreciating core strengths; developing deeper self awareness and acceptance; and learning the skills of empowered, effective communication. I am experienced in working with the newer spiritual growth paradigms, as in the work of Eckhart Tolle.

In a career that spans three decades in social work, I have developed a proven and unique approach to individual, family and marital counseling. My passion has always been working with children and families. After serving for more than 25 years in the Northville Public School system, I have become well versed in a variety of individualized treatment techniques The common thread that runs through all of those different scenarios is compassion and a willingness to listen. A therapist's job isn't about the therapist imposing his views. It's about the client. It's about you.

I also specialize in couples and family therapy .
The more you understand yourself and your patterns of behavior the better you can make positive change. Do you have marital issues that you are struggling with and need an honest objective opinion? Are you struggling with depression or anxiety and can’t seem to get out of the cycle? Many times it is another set of ears that is needed to help bring objectivity and clarity to an issue of life's crossroads. I also enjoy helping people understand why they keep repeating negative patterns and behaviors. Therapy can be very positive and inspire you to make changes.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
