Becoming a mother for the first (or second time) is HARD and overwhelming at times. You may be working through this new transition in life and trying to figure out all the things. We are told to take care of ourselves while selflessly giving everything we have to our babies and family. This can lead us to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, emotional, irritable, and even angry. You may be struggling with finding yourself in this new role or longing to feel like yourself again. Your relationships with your partner, friends, and family may have changed. Your childhood experiences may have come flooding back.

From personal & professional experience, the only way to fix something is to see it. There are many things in life we choose not to see, or we are so distracted/overwhelmed we cannot see them. However painful or ugly they are, they must be explored in order to figure out how we can make life better. I am here, as your mental health partner, to walk this path with you. I received my Master degree in Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University. Over the years, I have had the most blessed opportunity to help my mental health partners find their magnifying glass and choose the tools, already within, to fine tune life’s issues.

My belief is that anyone can benefit from therapy and it is a gift we give ourselves. I use a variety of treatment approaches that will bring positive, measurable results.

We all find ourselves on a different part on the spectrum, from dis-ease to wellness, at different times during our lifetime. How do we gravitate back towards well-being? That is an answer we can explore together as I accompany you through your journey to health! I have worked with adults in all levels of care and advocated for destigmatizing the need for therapy! My career started in 2008 working with severely mentally ill and developed in a strong background in crisis intervention for suicidal and homicidal clients.

You're finding yourself constantly nervous and stressed out about being good enough and measuring up to those around you. You're getting into frequent arguments with those you care about, causing you to feel exhausted and overwhelmed. When you share your viewpoint, you often feel stepped on and like your opinion doesn't matter, shining light on your insignificance once again. You also feel that you are the root cause of your suffering and the suffering of those around you. This feeling sends you into a downward spiral, which feels impossible to recover from.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
