My experience includes helping clients deal with a variety of issues like depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, ADD/ADHD, trauma and PTSD, marital and family issues, and those working through grief and loss.
Coming to therapy can be a frightening experience. Many people feel anxious and vulnerable opening up to someone. My goal as a counselor is to create a safe environment for you to share your experiences and help you to make positive changes in your life. As an educator, school counselor, and therapist I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse population that includes adolescents, adults and couples.

I help my clients discover the root causes of their presenting concerns, versus focusing on the surface thoughts and emotions. My areas of treatment focus include anxiety, depression, poor family relations, marital issues (including spousal infidelity or questions of divorce), employment and life transitions, grief and loss, abuse (mental, emotional, verbal and sexual) and spirituality. I utilize a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Systems Theory, and Biblical Principles to guide my clients in therapy. Beginning Aug. 2022, virtual appointments will be available on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.

I would be honored to help your family life and the lives of your children.
Parenting is never easy and it can be even more difficult when families change or the dynamics between family members are challenging. My goal is to help identify patterns of behavior that may have a negative impact and to learn how to respond proactively versus reactively.

There are times when life can be extremely difficult! During these times, it may feel as if you don't have the right tools to manage. We can sometimes be blind to our own behaviors that may be causing us to repeat painful patterns in our life. These painful patterns can bring about relationship problems and a host of uncomfortable feelings. My goal, as your therapist, is to partner with you to identify ways to function more effectively in life and feel better. My belief is that anyone can benefit from therapy and it is a gift we give ourselves. I use a variety of treatment approaches that will bring positive, measurable results.

With nearly 20 years of clinical experience in this field, I have learned that my clients are their own best experts. They teach me as much I teach them. Most all my clients tell me how they have been actively working on rectifying the issues they wish to address with varying results. We collaborate together in the effort of developing long-term lifestyle changes to replace problematic behaviors, with the goal being the creation of a life based their personal vision of what they want to see happen.

Living a good life is important -- it's everything, really. But life sometimes has other plans for us. Maybe a relationship has become unfulfilling, a job has become stressful and anxiety-producing. We're worried we're not good enough and that we won't achieve what we want in life. We might feel sad and depressed -- or anxious. We wonder why we can't parent more effectively or feel closer to our children. We wonder, we wonder, we wonder. And we try hard. But nothing seems to change and frustration sets in.

I am a strong believer in the power of self-exploration, particularly when one’s internal world becomes misaligned. Whether you are an individual struggling to realign yourself, or a couple experiencing new challenges within your relationship, my commitment as a therapist is to offer a safe and comfortable space to explore your authenticity and vulnerability. I encourage new perspectives to individuals and couples through compassion, honesty, forgiveness, and sometimes even lightheartedness. My intention is to work collaboratively and reveal your innate ability to grow. I welcome you to bring whatever you have with you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
