Primarily, I see people with anxiety disorders, depression, fears and phobias and individuals who are interested in personal growth.
I am passionate about my work with individuals, couples and families. My ideal clients are people who are mature and interested in personal growth. I derive satisfaction from helping people connect more deeply to an inner knowledge of themselves. I believe if you discover the patterns in your life that aren't working and are able to substitute new ways of problem solving and communicating then balance and harmony are restored. This provides an opportunity to discover a deeper connection and purpose to life and relationships.

I typically work with individuals who are affected by depression, anxiety , + obsessive compulsive disorders.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) within the State of Michigan and am a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC). I am the owner of the private practice Schwartz Therapy + Wellness, P.C located in Bingham Farms, MI. My philosophy for therapy is, "small steps every day", this phrase means we are working to take a step forward on your path to understanding yourself. That step is a step of exploration to assist you in becoming a more self aware person. It is a small step, not a leap, nor a run, the point is that little by little you are making a conscious effort to keep moving forward on your journey in life.

I have experience working with at-risk/ high-risk youth and adults as well as those who are struggling with: Addiction Disorders Anxiety Depression Stress.
Many people tend to bottle up their emotions because they believe that other people would just dismiss their problems. They also fear that people would see them as weak or as a burden. However, everyone should understand that seeking help is never a bad thing to do.

I have experience with Women’s Issues, Anxiety , Depression, Grief and Relationship/Attachment Issues.
From personal & professional experience, the only way to fix something is to see it. There are many things in life we choose not to see, or we are so distracted/overwhelmed we cannot see them. However painful or ugly they are, they must be explored in order to figure out how we can make life better. I am here, as your mental health partner, to walk this path with you. I received my Master degree in Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University. Over the years, I have had the most blessed opportunity to help my mental health partners find their magnifying glass and choose the tools, already within, to fine tune life’s issues.

My purpose is to provide a safe and supportive environment while you explore and grow in your ability to manage stress and anxiety .
Are you finding yourself feeling down and experiencing anxious thoughts? Are these thoughts usually negative, leading you to doubt yourself, worry, or obsess over varying outcomes? This can be common when experiencing significant life changes, like starting college, moving out of your family home, having relationship challenges, or starting a new job. While these changes are common in young adults, they can lead to burnout, decreased self-esteem, and anxiety . My name is Abigail Bell, and I have the privilege to be able to walk alongside you in the navigation and exploration of these challenges.

Living a good life is important -- it's everything, really. But life sometimes has other plans for us. Maybe a relationship has become unfulfilling, a job has become stressful and anxiety -producing. We're worried we're not good enough and that we won't achieve what we want in life. We might feel sad and depressed -- or anxious. We wonder why we can't parent more effectively or feel closer to our children. We wonder, we wonder, we wonder. And we try hard. But nothing seems to change and frustration sets in.

I specialize in working with minority populations, including young adults struggling with anxiety and depression.
Were you raised in two different cultures and struggle to find where you fit in? Do you struggle with balancing your needs and your family’s needs? Do you find it difficult to have a close and meaningful relationship with your parents? Often, children of immigrants can struggle with assimilating in a way that honors them and their parents. I am deeply passionate about bridging the gap between cultures and generations. I hope to support individuals navigate this unique journey.

In my practice, I work to guide individuals and couples through life transitions, relationship issues, trauma, anxiety , and depression, by employing a combination of therapies which may include any range of person-centered, existential, mindfulness-based cognitive, and emotion-focused therapies.
I am a strong believer in the power of self-exploration, particularly when one’s internal world becomes misaligned. Whether you are an individual struggling to realign yourself, or a couple experiencing new challenges within your relationship, my commitment as a therapist is to offer a safe and comfortable space to explore your authenticity and vulnerability. I encourage new perspectives to individuals and couples through compassion, honesty, forgiveness, and sometimes even lightheartedness. My intention is to work collaboratively and reveal your innate ability to grow. I welcome you to bring whatever you have with you.

I work with people who suffer from symptoms of depression, anxiety , post-traumatic stress, substance abuse, and chronic pain.
If sadness, worry, stress, chronic pain, and/or substance use is holding you back from getting what you want out of life, it is time to seek help. These symptoms can sometimes slow down, or even prevent, success in school, at work, and with relationships. I can help you understand how your thoughts and behaviors may be contributing to your symptoms, and how to change them so you can feel better. Your treatment plan and your goals are up to you; you decide what you want to change and how you'd like me to help you make those changes.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
