Relationships are difficult.
My therapy techniques come from Functional Medicine perspective: finding and working on the root cause of the problem rather than managing symptoms. I believe in the power of connection. I integrate mindfulness and emotional awareness to help you be more intentional in how you engage with others and how you do life, whether individually or in a relationship.

I started my professional career in a hospital where I quickly recognized that a diagnosis of cancer or other life threatening illness has the potential to significantly disrupt a person's physical, emotional, social and financial well being. I became very passionate about learning how to help individuals cope with adjustment to illness and manage their feelings of fear, anxiety and depression. In working with you my hope is to provide you with tools and strategies to cope with the challenges of your illness. This in turn can lead to positive change, an enhanced quality of life as well as an outlook filled with hope.

While I have a special interest, and heart for, working with those who have been deeply hurt, I also welcome couples who are struggling to live in harmony with one another or those who want to rekindle a "passion" for living life together in real, authentic partnership.
I offer an approach that seeks to address the unique needs of the "whole" person - body, mind, & for some - spirit. The attitude and practice of integrative psychotherapy affirms the inherent value of each individual and draws from a number of complementary and alternative healing practices that can allow us to live fully, courageously - in the present.

Life is not a dress rehearsal - our goal is to process the hard stuff, make sense of it, and form a positive plan to move forward so that life from this point forward feels manageable, workable, even fun.

I'm passionate about supporting individuals navigating religious trauma, leaving fundamentalist religious systems, and facing challenges related to mental health, relationships, grief, identity, trauma, and the complex experience of parenthood.
“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.” ― Howard Thurman.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
