Everyone faces challenges in their lives and I believe sharing those difficulties with a qualified person can be one of the best ways to overcome any obstacle. Often, people just need to be heard and validated for their emotions or they want a sounding board off which to bounce possible decisions. Some might not want to share their thoughts and emotions with another person in their life for fear of being judged. Others may be dealing with issues related to anxiety, depression, addiction or
trauma
. Whatever your reason is for seeking therapy, I would like to walk with you on your journey to better mental and emotional health.

Therapy is an interactive journey of gaining insights into one's patterns of thinking and behavior. It is necessary to resolve issues from the past and understand how the past or past traumas have shaped your life. These insights can then help you develop new, healthy coping skills. The focus of therapy is to offer hope, clarity, healing and change through a strong therapeutic relationship. I am a psychologist who will be actively involved in helping you achieve your goals and life aspirations. I am excited about working with people who are ready for lifelong positive change!

I specialize in working with parents, kids, and teens who have experienced
trauma
.
You recently discovered your child or teen may need counseling and are thinking, "Now what?!" It could be that your child is acting out and their teacher recommended counseling; maybe your teen told you they question if anyone cares about them; or you began fostering a child and know they need the extra support; or maybe it's the stresses of everyday life that are bogging you down and you need some sort of outlet. One of the hardest things about being in a time of despair is feeling alone, as if no one understands you, and then being so scared to take that first next step without knowing where to turn or what questions to ask.

Therapy is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself. Everyone has a past and carries some form of baggage with them. The issues from the past that remain unresolved impact multiple areas of our lives from our personal contentment to our interpersonal relationships. Once a client understands the underlying cause of their anxiety, depression, hurt, fears, etc., they can come to a place of acceptance and move forward minimizing the impact these issues have on the present. Our goal is to help each client find healing in order to live fully and authentically in the present.

Everyone has times in their lives when stress seems overwhelming, when ways that we use to cope just aren't working anymore, or are even making the situation worse. You might be sad, anxious, hurting yourself, isolating, or overeating and want to change. Counseling can help you to move forward at times when you feel stuck, can help you to develop new coping skills and tools to manage life's challenges, and rediscover the strength inside you. Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
