We all face stressful life events that prevent us from achieving what we want most in life. My passion as your counselor is to help you through these times. Working together with strengths you already have, the counseling process provides insights, information, strategies and techniques to move you toward achieving personal goals and change. Married now over 30 years, my passion is working with couples to create a secure emotional bond, intimacy and healing. Through a collaborative approach, I aim to foster emotional balance and a sense of competence as couples struggle with issues such as parenting, communication, and infidelity.

Childhood, adolescence, and adulthood are filled with so many different experiences, with everyone’s being unique. Some may come across smaller obstacles throughout their lifetime, whereas others may encounter obstacles that seem too big to overcome on their own. These obstacles that we encounter can come in many different forms, but it is when we cannot overcome them on our own that psychotherapy can equip us with skills to help.

Do you find yourself plagued by anxiety, worry, or intrusive thoughts, no matter what you do? Maybe you're someone who is rational and thoughtful, but still find yourself gripped by thoughts of “what if?”, spending time checking, analyzing, and looking for reassurance. Life has gotten smaller, and you’re confused, frustrated, and overwhelmed. You may be afraid of what these thoughts mean about you as a person or what could happen if you don’t keep them in check. But you’re ready to make a change and to start spending time on the things that are most important to you. Most of all, you’re ready to live a life that you can be proud of.

I am certified in Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP ) for the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Did you ever watch Boy Meets World growing up? If yes, skip the next two sentences. If no, then let me set the scene. A 90’s sitcom about the wholesome, suburban Philadelphia Matthews family, who have two teenage sons. The older brother, Eric, bonks his younger brother, Cory, in the forehead and says “Life’s tough, get a helmet.” While I don’t condone violence, I do agree that life can be tough sometimes. And while wearing a helmet is beneficial in a lot of scenarios (think: riding a bike), it is not so beneficial in the emotional, social, psychological, or theoretical realms.

For OCD and anxiety; CBT, ERP , ACT, and stress management techniques help to eliminate or decrease symptoms.
I am a Trauma, (PTSD) and OCD therapist with over 35 years of experience treating adults. I am passionate in my resolve to help my patients end their suffering from trauma, anxiety and OCD. Often times, these individuals have worked diligently in other types of therapy without achieving symptom relief. In my experience and according to current research, it appears that unresolved memories of trauma, neglect, emotional and/or physical abuse, contribute to underlying causes for chronic depression, emotional or physical pain. I take pride on being up to date on the current mind-body focus on overall wellness

No matter how hard you try to move forward, you feel like your taking one step back. You’re a high performer with perfectionism tendencies and always put on a smile, which helps you forget your pain. You feel you will never be fully happy and never be able to fully enjoy life how others do, because of your many losses, attributing to your decreased self esteem. You may keep friends and family at a distance, to protect yourself from yet another inevitable loss. You may have stopped exercising and taking care of yourself the way you used to, since it takes too much work and you're just surviving at the end of another long day.

It's hard being human. We don't come with an owner's manual. There's no certain formula for how to succeed at life. Often we don't even know what we want, or what will truly make us happy. We just know: "I want to feel better." Being human is incredibly messy and immensely complicated, and everyone gets stuck sometimes. Many different things happen that can cause us to get stuck: grief and loss, trauma, issues in relationships, LGBT+ or other identity issues, men's issues, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, ADHD or just needing a supportive, non-judgmental outsider to walk with us as we figure out who we are and what we want.

Your story matters. Sometimes that can be hard to fathom in a world of so many but it’s true. Everything that you have been through- your experiences in life, your relationships and your point of view - all matter. They are just elements of what has shaped you into who you are today, how you move through each day, and how you might envision your future.

As a behaviorist, I believe that the environments in which we develop ultimately play the most significant role in our actions, decisions, and outcomes. Without the proper space for growth, healing, and self-development, one may face difficulties in achieving self-realization and self-actualization. Human-beings are social creatures – genetically designed, behaviorally conditioned, and evolutionarily driven. We possess certain intrinsic, natural needs and adaptations that have developed over millions of years. If these dualistically basic and complex needs remain unfulfilled, we will struggle to attain this self-actualization.

What type of Auburn Hills mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist or psychologist, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.

How to find a therapist or counselor in Auburn Hills?
When looking to find a therapist, start by considering training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
