I completed a certificate program in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International and my clinical work focuses on the transition to motherhood and fulfilling
parenting
.
Motherhood just got a lot harder during this unprecedented time of crisis. Anxiety looms as we sit with the uncertainty about when COVID-19 limitations will end. If you are pregnant or just had a baby there is an extra layer of concern about what you can do during your precious postpartum time. If you are managing schooling at home, or have a child with high needs, you're probably feeling burnt out. Taking care of yourself through talk-therapy can help you ride out this turbulent time.

Every
parent
, child and family is different, and the unique challenges they face call for an individualized approach to each.
I believe that parents/caregivers are not only their child's first teachers, but often their best therapists. I seek to support parents (biological, adoptive, step, foster) and families of all types as they navigate the often-challenging work of nurturing and supporting the children in their care. I believe in helping parents to "secure their own oxygen masks before assisting others," by providing a safe space for parents to explore their own identities, values, challenges and experiences as caregivers. I am also experienced at providing practical guidance to parents facing challenging moments with their children.

I provide treatment services to children, adults, and families. With the nervous system in mind, I help clients to increase their ability to cope with stressors. I address concerns about a child's attention, learning, behavior and social and emotional development, and help families who are feeling stuck find new ways of relating.

Most of us grapple with who we are and what we want from our lives. Struggles with identity can cause or exacerbate problems with mood and anxiety, relationship and
parenting
issues, concerns related to work or school, and can bring up reminders of painful parts of our history. It is my goal to support people to learn about and feel confident in themselves! In particular, I am passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ folx and those struggling with
parenting
/ transition to parenthood. It is vital to have a space to explore and process who we are and what we want from life, and that's what I hope to provide for everyone I see.

Have you been in survival mode for too long? Are you
parenting
a child with big behaviors or emotions? Or are you working so hard to reparent yourself while simultaneously
parenting
small people with big needs?
Parenting
a child who is struggling is stressful even in the best of times. Maybe the thought "this isn't what (or the child) I was expecting" has even run through your mind. Whether you planned for pregnancy, fostering or adopting, you likely dreamed of love, connection and joy. And now you are not sure how to get there from here. Or if it is even possible. It really is! There is always room for hope.

I believe that people seek therapy for many different reasons; to manage feelings of sadness and/or anxiety, to work through specific personal or relational crises, to better
parent
difficult children, or simply to understand and resolve general feelings of discontent.
I work with clients for all of these reasons. I enjoy helping people discover new ways of thinking and finding qualities in themselves that have long been hidden.
I think of my therapy as a way to help people understand and change patterns of behavior that interfere with life goals and self-fulfillment.
Therapy is about helping people feel better.

NOT accepting new clients..... Raising children is not easy. Whether they are 5 years old or 15 years old, challenges can arise. While understanding the demands of being a
parent
(and a kid) in this day and age, I take a straightforward approach to address difficulties head on. I work with parents to gain a better understanding of how they can improve their child's quality of life while simultaneously finding fun, creative, and engaging ways to teach youth coping strategies to use at home and school. Having worked with children and adolescents for the last 15 years, I possess great skills in connecting with youth of any age.

I also provide individual,
parent
guidance and family therapy for children, adolescents and adults.
My clinical work is focused exclusively on psychological/neuropsychological assessment and intervention for children, adolescents, and adults. A thorough assessment seeks to understand, diagnose, and classify to be sure; however, the ultimate benefit is providing a manageable and effective intervention plan that leads to relief from distress and an increased capacity to engage fully in one's life. I would be pleased to meet you for a consultation, so that we may discuss your or your child's situation and have you receive a more detailed sense of my approach.

parent

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
