I will be accepting folks for Autism Assessments starting in January 2023. I use a neurodiversity affirming, strengths-based perspective, and an anti-oppressive lens on the reality that we're in a neurotypical world. I would encourage people who are interested in an Autism Assessment to check out my website which has more information. Unfortunately for Assesssments, I cannot take insurance. I'm not accepting individual therapy clients at this time.

I help struggling couples get back on track and help newly engaged/wed couples set up for success. You do not have to go through this alone. Most couples experience times of disconnection, difficulty communicating, confusion around compatability and wondering how to "press the reset button" to enjoy a happier, healthier relationship!

You want to feel grounded, connected and successful, but trauma and anxiety are leaving you feeling shaken, damaged, and disconnected from your true self. Is anxiety or recent or past trauma making it feel like life is out of control? Maybe you're caught in a spiral of worry or stress you can't seem to stop, constantly second-guessing yourself. Or maybe you're frustrated and exhausted by it all: feeling like you've done everything you know how to do to feel better, but you're still feeling triggered or on edge all the time. You might be seeing patterns in your relationships that you want to change. You're ready to feel better now.

Seeking therapy is an invaluable investment in oneself, and I believe it is my job as a therapist to empower clients to find and live their own paths and truths. The path to healing begins with a trusting and accepting therapist-client relationship; I provide a space that recognizes and centers the unique strengths, values, and lived experiences of each individual, and I seek to partner with clients to best meet their needs. Respecting client self-determination is fundamental to my practice, which is grounded in cultural humility and recognizing the ways in which our values and identities form the many facets of who we are.

I am passionate about helping people such as yourself work through painful life experiences, learn to tolerate painful emotions, develop a deep sense of connectedness, and discover a life of fulfillment they may have never thought possible. My primary focus during our work together will be safety. It is my hope to cultivate a strong and trusting client/counselor relationship so that we can make as much progress together as possible. Often therapy can be emotionally taxing and uncomfortable. Sometimes things can feel worse before they get better as you grow insight into your thoughts and feelings. My goal will be to create a partnership so we can safely work together. The therapeutic relationship often mirrors other relationships in your life. This means I will be addressing our relationship dynamics and communication as part of the therapeutic process.

Everyone experiences a wide range of emotions and sometimes they are hard to explore, understand, and process alone. The day-to-day challenges that we experience can often feel overwhelming and difficult to endure over time. Therapy can be a place where you can talk openly, question freely, and explore yourself without judgment.

I view therapy as a dynamic and evolving relationship. During my 30+ years working with youth and families, I’ve found my approach should be as unique as you are. You can expect me to be interactive, honest, and caring. Still, I will comfortably challenge you to talk about those issues holding you back and interfering in healing and becoming the person you want to be.

It’s easy to get turned around and lost when navigating the road to happiness; I’ve been there myself! You can never be sure what this path has in store for you. One minute sweet sunshine is all around us, and the next thing we know, gray skies roll in, flooding our picnics. Weary traveler, I have a few questions for you during these trying times. Are you searching for empowerment? Trying to seek out a nonjudgemental and compassionate ear? Looking to untangle the thoughts trapped inside your mind? If you answered yes to any these questions, I can help you out.

The foundation of any therapy is the relationship between the counselor and the client. Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship may be more important to treatment success than the specific therapeutic technique. For my part, I attempt to be the best therapist that I possibly can in regard to both the therapeutic relationship and technique. My goal is to walk with you in the therapy process. The path may be dark, but you will not be alone. I work with both couples and individuals in addressing symptoms caused by trauma.

How can I find a therapist in Ann Arbor?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
