In addition to providing psychotherapy, I am a seasoned parent consultant when therapy is either not indicated- or not welcomed- by the child or
teen
.
I enjoy working with people of all ages as they face life's challenges. Everybody struggles from time to time with worry, sadness, anger, and fear. Family difficulties, low self-esteem, problems in relationships, and school and work stress are common. When these issues persist over time, then psychotherapy can be helpful. I believe that a warm, caring, and trusting connection between the therapist and client is a necessary foundation before improvement can occur. We start with a consultation where I will listen carefully and sensitively to your concerns, and then offer you a therapeutic approach that will best help you achieve your goals.

I also enjoy working with late
teen
and young adult clients who are going through so many life transitions.
Most of us know that even the healthiest of us need at some point in our lives an outside perspective or guidance into our inner selves to resolve many issues that we have not been able to do on our own. Therapy can take many forms from "personal growth work " (i.e. becoming a better person or reaching personal goals not yet achieved) or in dealing with life crises, wrong choices in the past effecting today, life transitions or mood problems such as depression, grief, anxiety etc. am also helping people deal with covid and all of it's implications.

Finding a good "fit" with a therapist can have a significant impact on achieving a successful outcome. I strive to help each client discover and harness their unique strengths in addressing their problems. With children, intervention is orientated toward problem-solving family therapy. A cognitive-behavioral approach is often utilized when working with adults and
teen
. Psychological, and Neuropsychological Evaluations are intervention-focused. Tests chosen are "sensitive" to the diagnostic concerns and guide treatment. I help develop and implement practical behavioral management and social support strategies in real life situations, including the home , classroom or work .

I specialize in the treatment of
adolescent
girls and adult women, many of whom have experienced sexual trauma, emotional abuse, and physical assault.
Healing begins when we talk about the pain - I believe one of the largest obstacles to feeling better is asking for help. I also believe that each of us is resilient and has an inner strength that enables us to soldier on while we work through our pain. My goal as your therapist will be to support you and give you the tools you need, while guiding you through the process of healing and resolution so that you may find inner peace and renewed energy.

No child,
teen
, or parent is alone on the road for children/
adolescent
mental health.
All humans, regardless of age, experience day-to-day challenges that can sometimes be overwhelming. Children and adolescents are faced with emotional, physical, and mental difficulties, just as adults are, but often lack the tools they need to communicate their feelings clearly and regulate their responses. My role is to support you and your child with communication, understanding behavior, alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges, processing trauma, building coping skills, and finding parenting methods that support you and your kiddo.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
