When learning difficulties, and/or emotional/behavioral issues negatively impact social, academic, or work performance, it may signal the need for formal psychological testing. I conduct the following types of assessments, including but not limited to: Giftedness, Learning Disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and Testing for Accommodations (e.g., Extended Time). I have over 25 years experience performing psychological evaluations in many different settings, including schools (elementary, middle, high school, college), inpatient/outpatient psychiatric clinics, forensic settings, and in my private practice.

I like working with people who want to know themselves better and are open to looking at their lives in a way they may not have done before. Most people seek psychological help because they want relief from pain and to feel more satisfied in their relationships, work, and with themselves. However, when they engage in examining their lives, things can take surprising turns that not only helps them achieve their goals but often results in redefining what they want in life.

I view therapy as a laboratory for fostering meaningful change and self-discovery. I practice from an integrative perspective, focusing on creating a healing and empathetic relationship that incorporates a range of evidence-based modalities to move towards a more fulfilling, resilient, and harmonious life. I’m particularly drawn to working within the Internal Family Systems model, an attachment-based modality that uplifts the complexity and wisdom of our internal worlds and strengthens our inherent capacity to heal burdened parts of our systems and develop compassionate, strengths-based relationships with ourselves and others.

You have made an admirable choice to serve people with honor and integrity. It is time for you to do the same for yourself. Sometimes you may feel like you’re in a pressure cooker. I am here to assist in turning down the heat and releasing the inner tension and barriers that hold you back. You face incredible challenges, each and every day and sometimes that can be difficult but your work does not need to have an indelibly negative impact upon you or your loved ones.

To help you get to where you no longer need my help: that is my definition of Psychotherapy. Fort 35 years that I have been studying and practicing psychotherapy I have learned and continue to learn as many different therapeutic approaches as I can fit into an extended work day. I want to bring all those theories and methods into the office to help you analyze and master the obstacles you may encounter, to help you dispel that idea that you are damaged, broken or inferior. Those are false beliefs. The phone number is below. Let's get started.

My professional expertise is primarily rooted on establishing a positive rapport with the client. The individual's needs are of paramount importance when trying to establish said connection. I don't believe much in theoretical concepts but rather in how the dynamics are presented between the dyad when processing and dealing with sensitive personal issues, which ultimately may help us to develop a stage of psychological balance and emotional fulfillment.

In practice I use a pragmatic, results-oriented approach and am not tethered to one particular psychoanalytic modality. Rather, recognizing each patient has unique needs, I draw from many therapeutic approaches that best fit each patient. In my practice, I can quickly assess which techniques will work best to meet each client's individual needs to show patients that they can have the right tools to reach their optimal comfort level in their careers, families, and relationships. The goal is bridging the gap and finding the most productive pathway between where clients are and where they want to be.

Much of my work is done with clients who are looking to grow from the many unfortunate events that have happened in their lives. I do believe that traumatic situations can destroy a person if they remain a victim. But if they are willing to do the hard work of turning that pain into power, then their situation didn't occur in vain. That is why I am both analytical and an action oriented and caring therapist.

Your individual challenges are unique to your experiences and circumstances, cultural and spiritual beliefs, and personal identity. Life events, challenges, or transitions may cause us to lose sight of who we truly are and who we want to be. I help my clients to foster self-acceptance and autonomy, and gain better insight into the symbolism and dynamic significance of their choices and actions. Therapy is one path to developing a sense of meaning and purpose in both adverse and day-to-day experiences.

Forensic Psychology Therapists

How does forensic psychology work?

Forensic psychology works by providing those in the legal system with expert information about psychology and behavior that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Forensic psychologists do this through a range of services—conducting psychological assessments for court cases, assisting police officers with investigations, providing expert opinion, helping with mediation, and providing mental health care to victims or perpetrators of crimes.

Can a forensic psychologist help with child custody cases?

Yes. In the event that it’s needed, an attorney or judge may appoint a forensic psychologist to provide an assessment and recommendation. This process involves multiple interviews with the child, the parent (or parents), and sometimes others. The psychologist assesses the parent’s mental health, strengths and weaknesses, and parenting practices to understand what’s in the child’s best interest. They then complete a report with recommendations based on their assessment.

Do forensic psychologists help solve crimes?

In some cases they do. For example, criminal profiling involves collaborating with law enforcement officers to construct a profile of a perpetrator based on psychology, personality, and behavior as suggested by the crime in order to focus the investigation. They may also offer expert input on subjects related to a case such as deception, false confessions, and the reliability of testimony based on eyewitness accounts.

How long do people typically work with a forensic psychologist?

The length of time an individual works with a forensic psychologist depends on the relevant service. For example, if a forensic psychologist is conducting a psychological assessment for a court case, this may take one to two sessions to complete (although they can be more extensive). If the forensic psychologist is providing therapy to someone accused or convicted of a crime, treatment may last for several months or more.
