I offer weekly, biweekly, or monthly counseling sessions for kids, teens, young adults and families. I specialize in working with teenagers and young adults who struggle with social anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I enjoy working with people who feel 'stuck' in life from not being able to heal from past disappointments, hurts, or trauma. My main goal is to help clients make meaning out of their suffering, find strength in who they are, and experience more peace and joy as a result. Sessions will focus on self-growth/care, personal responsibility, forgiveness, and identifying small changes that can be made to reach goals.

Some of my specialty areas are trauma recovery, depression, and anxiety.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist and have been practicing for over 10 years. I am here to help you through the difficult parts of your life, whether you are an adult or a child. You might not understand where your feelings are coming from or why they have come to surface now. I can help you explore the core of these feelings and then accompany you on your journey to self-healing and growth. I am eclectic in the types of therapy I use, but I am often drawn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, to help you reach your goals. I also do telehealth therapy in Florida and Oregon.

I work with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, personality disorders and multicultural issues.
Life can be dysfunctional and although many of us learn how to function in this dysfunction there are times where it may become too much to walk in alone. Your life seems filled with constant thoughts of "I should have: said that differently, told them how I felt, spoke up for myself". You struggle with fears of judgment and expectations. Somedays it may seem like an impossible mission to get out of bed, shower, feed yourself or socialize with others. You struggle with persistent irrational thoughts that you are aware of but can't seem to make them stop.

I counsel children, teens, and adults, with struggles including depression, anxiety, OCD, adjustment disorders, family dynamic issues, blended family difficulties, relationship issues, self esteem, abuse, and grief / loss.
Sometimes, in order to reach God's full potential for us, we need a little help along the way. To be encouraged, motivated, empowered, and reminded of how strong and courageous we are. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11. I truly believe this! I am beyond blessed and grateful to be able to counsel anyone who is struggling, lost, broken, or just a little bit off-balance. I place great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, validation, and on improving self awareness, insight, self esteem, and assertiveness.

I have a wide range of experience and have treated symptoms of depression, AD/HD, school/academic related issues, anxiety, self-esteem problems, psychosis, thought disturbances, sleep related issues, bipolar mood swings, self-harm, impulsivity, abuse, trauma, Autism spectrum, developmental delays, existential issues, and relationship difficulty.
I offer an eclectic approach to a diverse group of populations throughout the entire lifespan; utilizing several types of therapeutic modalities including: cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, psychoeducational counseling, humanistic, existential, relaxation training, sports-exercise psychology, family systems, as well as mindfulness philosophies and techniques. During our initial consultation, information is gathered through the use of various assessment techniques in order to specifically identify problematic areas. During the early formation of the therapeutic relationship we will create goals that can be empirically measured in order to statistically track patient progress and maintain quality assurance.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
