The client is first. There will be no judgement. The key to helping clients is to build a trusting relationship. Only when a trusted relationship is built can a client be helped. My approach to the counseling relationship is like getting to the core of an onion or going over a painting. We will examine the painting together to see if something needs to be worked on. There will be tools provided that may be used by the client long after the client is discharged from Therapy.
Approaches will include Mindfulness, Positive Affirmation, CBT, DBT and Humanistic approach. The ultimate goal is to provide tools to the client so when they face challenges in the future, they can use the tools learned during the sessions to help them navigate challenges.
The counselor will be understanding. The therapist will not think he knows a client's needs. The client and clinician will work together. The therapist will not give advice or provide answers. There will be a collaborative effort to help the client bring out the answer.
