An early question I'll ask is, 'what do you want from this?' As the client, you may not have a specific answer. My approach to counseling is more unconventional, relaxed, and strength based. Whether you know what you want or feel more uncertain in the moment, we'll collaborate to explore your goals and how we can navigate them together. I lean more towards a harm reduction framework, meeting a client where they are (a humanistic approach), but also challenging the stressors and thought patterns that keep them there (cognitive behavioral). Learning your relationship to the mood, substance, or behavior is where we begin.
My work background is in outpatient centers and opioid treatment programs in New York. I began in 2021 and continued my work when moving back to South Carolina in 2024.
I recognize that substance use frequently cooccurs with underlying anxiety or depression; we address them together and build your own style of recovery.
