One of the most basic and comforting aspects of therapy is the fact that you will have a partner on your journey. In my office we will sit together as we create a partnership built on trust and mutual concern. We can work to address your concerns. Perhaps you’re struggling with a relationship, either personal or professional. Our work will seek to find solutions to the problem. Some issues require learning how to work through them-like loss. There may be trauma that needs to be released. Also of concern for many are life transitions such as moving, becoming a senior, empty nesting, retirement, etc.

My interest is in helping you live your life fully. What do you know, and love, about yourself? What troubles you, no matter how much you work on it? And what are those unthought knowns–the truths about yourself that you don’t yet tell yourself? There is great healing power in learning them and learning how to use them. When someone enters a treatment with me, I feel the deep honor of accompanying that person on a significant journey. During the 30 years I’ve done therapy, I’ve become increasingly impressed by the power of a life story. How do we nurture the qualities that define us, make life more exciting and satisfying?

Counseling is a challenging avenue to pursue. Usually at moments of confusion, loss, even desperation. Having been in the field for over 20 years, I can admit I don't have 1 answer. However, having that amount of professional (and considerable personal) experience, I've accumulated quite a tool box. It may not guide you to immediate enlightenment, but it will help with the journey. I hope to hear from you.

I aim to serve people devoted to growing themselves and their communities. I often support clients working in helping professions, such as health care, education, non-profits, community services, and therapeutic programs. I can empathize with the demands of simultaneously being a parent, professional, and serving people in crisis. Many of us are 'wounded healers' in our own right, coping with inner struggles while caring for those around us. Healing occurs as we bravely confront our own inner difficulties, and that is a process I am passionate about supporting.

I earned my Master's degree from a holistically oriented clinical mental health counseling program at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts - one of the most comprehensive programs of its kind. Since earning my degree I have provided counseling across a variety of settings including non-profit and for-profit organizations, government agencies, hospitals, employee assistance and now in private practice. Locally here in the Rogue Valley I have worked for both Asante and Jackson County Mental Health. At the latter location I trained the RN staff in counseling skills and fellow counselors in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Sexual addiction (SA) is a hidden addiction. It is a global problem, under-reported, and largely untreated. SA harms relationships, creates relational trauma for partners, and damages trust and intimacy in relationships. Addicts often engage in secrecy and feel shame and guilt about their behavior. Partners often feel betrayed and traumatized by the addicts behavior. Intimacy issues are often an underlying concern for both individuals and for couples. Like other addictions, SA can get progressively worse over the years. If untreated, SA can lead to relationship loss, divorce, job loss. financial problems, and legal problems.

Thanks for your time. I provide support for clients while holding the belief that we experience life in the context of mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and social dimensions that are inseparable; those aspects that makes someone a whole person; the people we are, the product of our personal and social interactions and contributions to them; that which makes you, and that which makes me—we; that we are equal, interconnected and are more alike than different. I think about healthcare from an integrative approach; that historical, contemporary and complimentary/alternative forms of medicine are not mutually exclusive.

Now accepting new clients! Has life become a process of just going through the motions? Has the build up of painful memories from the past or the worry about what will happen next keep you from living life to its fullest? The truth is that each one of us will struggle at some point on this "path" we call life. However, as common as struggle is, likewise is the struggle of working up the courage to reach out and ask for help when we need it. The beauty of counseling is that it reveals this path doesn’t have to be walked alone.

Hello! Thank you for considering me to accompany you on this sacred journey. I believe counseling is a powerful tool for overcoming obstacles to well-being and human flourishing. I treat clients with a range of issues, from existential issues and coping with the demands of life, to mood disorders and anxiety, complex trauma and PTSD, spirituality concerns and religious trauma, and men's and LGBTQi issues. Together, we will examine these problems, trace their origins to childhood and significant adult relationships, and learn new skills and new ways of relating to others and ourselves to rediscover well-being and flourishing in life.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
