As part of my counseling, I work with students and professionals who want to try modern therapy. Many of my clients want to overcome the stress of significant life changes that have challenged their beliefs about themselves and others. I emphasize choice and collaboration over "knowing what is best for you." I enjoy working with individuals that struggle with indecisiveness, especially when it comes to overthinking what others might think of you. I work well with clients that would like to how to understand their inner critic and respond to those beliefs about whether you are "worth it" a helpful manner.

I came to therapy as a client and became passionate about the benefits of therapy because of the changes I experienced in my own life. I am a fellow traveler along the path to healing who knows suffering. It is a great honor to help people reduce unnecessary suffering and improve pleasure, wellness, and ease in their lives. Learning about ourselves is a life-long process as we are constantly exposed to new experiences. There is always room to improve our relationships and the rewards are real.

Life can be difficult and so can college. Talking about it is a great way to help make things go smoother. I’m here to help you talk and connect in a way that makes it easy to do so. We can discuss anything you want from the past, present or future and find ways together to better understand the challenges that you face today. I am here to let you know that you can tell me anything and you are not alone. Creating a safe space to have good conversations about your life is what I do best. Sometimes it's hard to talk about things that give us anxiety or depression but the best medicine is talking.

If anxiety, stress or lack of motivation is holding you back or making everyday life more difficult, please reach out to me for a free consultation. Together, my clients and I work to "make friends with our anxiety." This means, rather than seeing anxiety and stress as our enemy, we listen to what it's trying to tell us and learn to use it to our benefit. Rather than struggling against our feelings, our work will focus on understanding them and using them to help us achieve our goals and live a full life. I also specialize in relationship/family issues, ADHD, trauma, and college mental health.

Unmanaged stress can negatively effect how we cope with the challenges we face in life. Anxiety and depression are just a couple of the most common effects of stress whether that stress is experienced in the present or past. Stress can also interfere with our ability to function in relationships by inhibiting our ability to process emotions. By working with a counselor you are taking the first important step in overcoming your challenges. Your journey in addressing these challenges is important to me and I look forward to working together with you in achieving improved emotional health and functioning.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
