*Now offering ADHD evaluations* My goal is to provide a relaxed environment where you feel free and supported to explore your thoughts and feelings. I work to help you recognize your true emotions that may be hiding behind initial reactions of defensiveness or anger. Together, we can identify maladaptive patterns of behavior that may be contributing to symptoms of depression or anxiety, or that may be creating barriers to communication. Identification of these patterns provides the opportunity to change them and ultimately find more joy in experiences, intimacy in relationships, and the ability to communicate effectively.

I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. I have experience working with men, women, and children. I believe showing up authentically with ourselves and others is one of the bravest and most liberating things we can do in our lives. Therapy is a safe place to remember who we truly are and discover the power that each of us possess to create a life that we enjoy.

I truly enjoy creating a genuinely caring, non-judgmental environment to foster feelings of hope and confidence that things ARE going to get better. I’ve overcome challenges, setbacks, failures, deaths, etc. I try to use my life experiences, when appropriate, as well as my professional experience of about 20 years spent in multiple human service fields. Areas of specialization: caregiver burnout, geriatric issues, depression, anxiety, stress management, dementia/Alzheimer's (certified trainer of care providers), ADD/ADHD, young adults feeling lost, special needs, grief and loss, chronic health challenges, marital/family issues, etc.

I view life as a process of learning, about ourselves, the world, and our place in it. Challenges and difficulties arise in people's lives a various points, and for various reasons. These provide an opportunity for growth and change, either through adapting and overcoming our problems, or through learning something new. I focus on where each person is in their life without judgment, and works to facilitate growth and improvement in the situation through whatever means that particular person finds most effective.

It's awful to feel overwhelmed and alone, and seeking help can feel intimidating. The internet is full of advice, and finding the right thing to do can be exhausting when even the experts disagree. I know how hard it can be. As a parent myself, and a human being who has also experienced challenges, I'm not here to judge you or tell you what to do. I am here to provide guidance, support, and practical tools that can help.

From a young age, the inclination to approach others who appear to be experiencing hardship became instilled in me through early life experiences and choices. The passion I have towards helping others achieve their full life potential and engage in purposeful growth is of great importance to me.  I received my Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Michigan and subsequently received my Master of Arts in clinical psychology at the Michigan School of Psychology. Having worked years in partial hospitalization, I enjoy working with individuals who are both experiencing

I am a fully licensed psychologist with over 40 years of experience treating adolescents, adults, elderly, individuals, couples and families. My approach is eclectic, using whatever therapeutic techniques are appropriate to each individual's needs. I am an interactive therapist. Short term therapy is my preferred approach, in order to enable individuals to become healthier, more functional and to move on without interminable therapy. My practice also consists of forensic psychology and industrial/organizational psychological consultation. I coach employees, managers and corporate executives. Initial appointments are within at most within one week of client's contact.

Are you looking for assistance with managing stress, relationships, grief, parenting, anxiety, trauma and/or depression? Or, are you interested in help with weight loss, adjustment to illness, or stopping smoking? I am a board certified Health Psychologist specializing in short-term counseling (usually 6-10 visits but could be more/less). I've been doing this work for 46 years now, and still love it. And, I'm used to being successful at what I do. The challenge for me is people's "inside" language - what takes place beneath awareness. This is akin to the language of poetry and myth. I then translate between the worlds of "problem reality" and the deeper emergent Self - which is why I find this work rewarding. In working with couples I seek to translate the language (hopes and dreams) of each to that richer place between and behind - where hope becomes real. Go see my website.

It can be hard to keep going when you feel stuck in your life, whether it is a relationship, a job, or simply not knowing what to do with the thoughts and feelings that come into your head. You may find it hard to get through your day: losing efficiency at work, finding it difficult to sleep or relax, pushing loved ones away, or just daydreaming when there are things that you need to do. Sometimes the pressure is too much and you might be tempted to turn to alcohol, food, television, gaming, or some other way to feel and connect with someone or something. Or, perhaps, you simply just checked out.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
