Are you feeling unsettled in your life but not sure what would help you to feel better? Are you feeling stressed out by your relationships in your life? When we are struggling with daily challenges, our connections with our significant others, family members, children and colleagues can be affected. Sometimes we then try to anxiously fix things and other times we just withdraw into our own minds. While all of this can be normal, it can be stressful trying to figure out how best to move forward.

Along the journey of life, some challenges and suffering are inevitable and there often are not always clear or easy answers. We want our lives to have value, meaning and purpose. Knowing these things for ourselves can be a tremendously liberating and empowering experience that gives us the hope, courage, and tenacity we need to face life's challenges. However, the process of discovering or defining these "truths" can be confusing, frustrating or even scary. We all require support and solidarity from trusted comrades during our journey. Knowing when to stop and ask for help along the way does not make us weak, it makes us strong!

Being an immigrant, I have been touched by people's stories of pain, love, joy, and suffering. I believe that through sharing our individual stories and allowing me in your space, to see YOU for who YOU are has a restorative power for growth and healing. So much of our pain happens in relationships to other people, and I believe it can be helpful to work towards healing that in therapy. My approach to therapy is to work through a collaborative, multicultural and attachment lens. I will sit and listen to you, and together we will embark on your journey of exploration so that you are not alone.

Self-awareness, self-compassion, self-esteem? Resilience, effective functioning, self-care? Connection, authenticity, belonging? Are these things you’ve realized you lack and want more of? These are directions of growth I hope for you and each of my clients, to be defined and directed by us collaboratively in therapy. One of the first things I'll ask you is how you want your life and your mental health to improve within the next few months. I use an integrative, client-centered approach, weaving together CBT, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), compassion-focused, psychodynamic and relational interventions. Licensed in IL and NY.

Life experiences and the thoughts and feelings we have about them can be overwhelming to figure out and make sense of alone. I believe that the therapeutic relationship fostered with clients is a safe space where you can truly be seen, heard, and feel comfortable being your authentic self. I help clients make sense, make meaning, and manage the difficult challenges and symptoms experienced throughout your daily lives (and past). I'm LGBTQ affirming, and I practice as an integrative, intersectional-feminist relational trauma therapist who operates from an anti-racist/anti-oppressive lens.

My interest in therapy started when I was at my breaking point, and my own therapy experiences didn't help. Since then, I've tried to be a therapist for anyone who found themselves in a similar situation, and sometimes being a helper isn't enough. I strive to connect with people where they are at, to understand what others might not, and to help when even the system lets you down. We all need an ally to get unstuck, reconnect and pick ourselves up, and I believe in doing so with warmth and respect. It can be tough to choose a stranger when we feel vulnerable and out of control. I've made it my goal to be someone worthy of that.

My clients tell me I’m warm, supportive, down-to-earth, insightful, approachable, and genuine. Some of my common areas of interest are working with young adults experiencing life transitions, those who identify with "people pleasing" or "perfectionist" tendencies, individuals having relationship issues, dads, parenting, and self-esteem issues. My goal is to collaborate with you where you are at to begin to process these experiences and develop skills and awareness about yourself for you to grow. I believe every person deserves to be validated and have a safe space to feel and be heard.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
