I have developed a niche in men's issues and offer a culturally informed perspective that ensures you, as the client, feel seen, affirmed, and understood.
Together we can improve your health, well-being, and help you overcome obstacles that may be getting in the way of life. My approach typically targets how you can be more open, aware, and actively engaged in your life. It is informed by a commitment to healing justice and fostering diversity and inclusion in all spaces. To accomplish this, I use several frameworks that bolster your intrinsic strengths, aid you in shaking free of unhelpful stories, deepen your sense of self-awareness, and allow you to heal collectively with natural supports. I also integrate the wisdom and the life experience that you bring.

I have an extensive background in mental health, having worked with a variety of populations including college students, young professionals, older adults, and low-income/in-need individuals. I have helped clients address concerns relating to depression, grief, anxiety, substance use, men's issues, and trauma. Throughout my work, I maintain the belief that each individual has the potential to become "better than they are now" through personal growth, acceptance, and capability of self-choice. As the counselor, my role is to help facilitate this change, whether through discussion or listening ear, and I view each client holistically.

You feel stressed, worried and at times angry as if there is a weight on your shoulders. This weight is affecting your family, friends and even your job. What you’re doing isn’t working anymore. Still you don’t think you should tell some stranger your problems, especially if they won’t get where you’re coming from or how you feel. But you want to make a change. If you are looking for a place to feel heard, someone who won’t judge you or just the relief of finally being able to share how you feel with someone who won’t look at you differently then I encourage you to take that chance. I welcome you, What’s on your mind?

Often personal and professional relationships get complicated and difficult. This results from our patterns of behavior and how we experience the world. Also true, is that we do not easily see what blocks us from having a more fulfilling and meaningful life. The psychotherapy I offer, allows for better understanding of reflexive and often no-longer-helpful reactions and responses which can cause anxious or depressed moods, conflicted relationships and decreased satisfaction in personal and professional relationships. By making a commitment to your well being and by using your therapy, your life can become richer and more meaningful.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
