I have had the privilege to work with a wide range of clients in terms of age, gender, race, social economic status, and acuity of symptoms. While everyone has something unique to bring to therapy I find the most fulfillment working with couples, those dealing with issues regarding their sexuality, first responders (police, firefighters, EMT’s), individuals recovering from trauma, and people dealing with concerns with technology such as video game or online addiction.

Your privacy is valued. Support is here for you that is discreet, convenient, and prioritizing you whether that’s with therapy or coaching, I am here. I will help you brave through life’s most challenging storms. We will weather them together and I’ll guide you to that beautiful rainbow on the other side. It’s there. It does exist. Every storm passes. You deserve your rainbow and I will help you create it. Change is hard. What’s hardest? Staying where you’re not meant to be. Allow me the honor to support you on your journey.

I use a variety of techniques to match the needs of each client throughout each session. I primarily use DBT, ACT, and IFS therapeutic modalities. These techniques emphasize mindfulness, personal strengths, resilience, and choice. Additionally, I use compassion and explore my clients’ values to gently challenge them to find more effective ways of getting their needs met. At times I use improv, humor, and a conversational and dynamic therapeutic style to create a judgment-free, supportive, and safe environment; disarming the self-critic; and allowing my clients to express themselves freely.

By listening to people and paying attention to what develops, I collaboratively assist them to understand feelings, thoughts, body experiences, and behaviors. This may remove barriers to living life to the full. We often create these barriers early in life and then continue them through habitual thought, feeling-management, and relationship patterns. Healing occurs in a safe, new kind of relationship. Within this relationship, people may recognize things they have known and not known. Those who openly share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences (including a hesitation to share certain things) are often able to make progress.

Not accepting new clients
It's easy to feel like you should be happy. But when doubts about your strength and value come creeping in, anyone can feel like they don't measure up. Family, relationships, trauma, embarrassments, anything big or small can hurt, under the wrong circumstances. Therapy isn't about making things perfect, it's about feeling calm and confident in yourself, even when things feel broken. Loving yourself might seem like a huge, impossible goal, but I believe that it is the best goal you can ever set. I am here to to help guide you on your journey.

The focus of my practice is working with those with stress, depression, self-esteem issues, or traumatic events such as sexual abuse, death, cumulative trauma or PTSD. I have years of experience working with general clients, emergency first responders, and college age students. I am also a Crisis Counselor and have studied under the mentorship of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. I'm trained in Critical Incident Stress Management and use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing in my practice. EMDR assists those with traumatic memories and PTSD to process past events.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
