Greetings! I am Dr. Melita T. Stancil, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I am passionate about providing comprehensive psychological assessment, and evidenced-based treatment for individuals and families. I received a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical-Community Psychology at the University of South Carolina. I have also received the capstone of my clinical training at Mount Sinai St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals, an intensive American Psychological Association accredited child and adolescent pre-doctoral Internship program. I have additional specialized training in serious mental illness with adults at Northwell Health Zucker Hillside Hospital.
I incorporate the use of an eclectic framework with a number of therapeutic modalities such as, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Social Cognition Intelligence Training, and Mentalization. I also integrate social, cultural, and environmental influences to promote personal empowerment.
In addition to my private clinical work within New York City, I am an author of four peer-reviewed scientific articles, a grant funded community coalition project, and an inpatient organizational development intervention.
