ADDICTION & DEPENDENCY result from an unconscious refusal to move through the pain of withdrawal (from a chemical, thought-process, behavior, other person, etc.). The behavior gets repeated, accompanied by cycles of disappointment, shame, GRIEF, frustration and isolation. Having experienced this same cycle (more than once) I bring years of education, training, personal recovery experiences and compassion to our therapeutic relationship. Unhealthy “self-regulation” (finding a place of being okay) happens in almost as many ways as there are people; what IS the same for us all, however, is the need to feel “safe” in our connections with others and ourselves. This essential, biological, human-need lays under most of our behaviors. Bringing this understanding to the surface is my first goal....
