Hello, I'm Melissa Balent, a licensed professional counselor and licensed addictions counselor. My therapeutic process centers on expressing the authentic self and supporting your growth in meaningful areas that are important to your life goals. I specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stress, grief and loss, life transitions, self-esteem, work stress, veteran issues, and recovery from substance use. I provide psychoeducational resources and tools to complement therapy to build on work done in sessions.
My therapeutic approach is described as eclectic, trauma-informed, supportive, and introspective utilizing various relational, process-based, and evidence-based interventions for supporting my clients in developing coping skills for managing stress and improving connection, communication, confidence, and mood.
As a therapist, I would describe myself as open, compassionate, nonjudgmental, and accepting. I am collaborative and engaging in sessions, with active empathetic listening, thoughtful questions and reflections to support growth and insight while building adaptive coping skills.
