I'm always striving to find a better way to counsel middle-aged women who are considering or are now serving as their parents' primary caregiver/carer—a role-reversal few are prepared for especially if there is a history of unreported sibling physical and sexual abuse. My lived experience as a primary and long-distance carer coupled with nearly 25 years of counseling caregivers across the lifespan provides the foundational knowledge, clinical experience, and compassion necessary to validate and empower women serving as caregivers for aging parents—often without the support needed to maintain their own mental health wellness.
I practice from a strengths-based framework in tandem with a blend of feminist and dialectical behavior therapies. We’ll re-discover your existing strengths, which will help you work with any ambivalence surfacing as you navigate through this difficult time. Ultimately, you'll feel compelled to live life the way you want and not how others want you to live.
I can help you decide if being a caregiver is in your best interest. If it is not, I'll help you find options. If serving as a carer is the way forward, we’ll work through your history of abuse so you can fulfill this challenging role by setting firm boundaries with those who failed to protect you.
