I believe the core self knows what we need in order to heal if we listen. I have experience with teens and adults who struggle with suicidality/self-injury, trauma, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, life-transitions, and spiritual/religious crises. I can help you apply in-depth DBT, and also what comes after DBT. I am trained in Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), DBT Foundations, advanced EMDR, and Sand Tray work. I work well with spiritual orientations, behavioral approaches, narrative and strengths-based work. My doctoral research focused on self-injury and the biosocial model; a great place to start.

I specialize in helping you to reframe your lifeworld experience by using DBT, EMDR, mindfulness, and sand tray work. Trauma and other life events can disconnect one from their core self which keeps us stuck and exhausted. Every client is doing the best they can: I firmly hold to this premise while also challenge you to grow through the painful barriers.

I utilize evidence based practice and some "out-of-the-box" practices as well. I presented my research at (SSWR) Society for Social Work Research in Washington DC (2018), UMHCA Conference (2017), (Utah Mental Health Clinicians Association), Utah Valley University Suicide Prevention Conference (2017), and NATSAP National Association (Layton, Utah) 2018.

Melinda White's Groups

DBT Skills for Teens

Age limit for group 13-17. All genders are welcome. This teen DBT skills group teaches all four modules of DBT: Mindfulness, Distress (Crisis) Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills. The course cycles through a 24 week protocol. You may join us anytime until group is full. Regular participation is required and expected. While we work hard and are dedicated to becoming DBT blackbelts, we can also have fun. Parents may call for a free 15-min phone consultation to determine if we are a good fit. There will be occasional, optional parent-only skills groups.
