Trauma is treatable. But the biggest blocks to treatment are things we can't talk about. It's easy to build a relationship with a therapist based on your ideal self: the parts of you society accepts, including wounded parts. The deeper work happens when we spend time with the parts of ourselves we reject and abhor. As we make the unconscious, conscious, we increase our self-compassion and decrease reactivity.
Trauma is stored in a present tense form. Like an infected wound, years later these experiences continue to create pain. Current modalities allow us to utilize the brain's own metabolic processes to transform memories from a present tense from to past tense, relieving the body's psychic nervous system. The wound becomes a scar, and psychic pain resolves.
