Sexual Assault, Childhood Trauma, Intimate Partner Violence are as traumatic as warfare. Those who have experienced these things often battle through life, struggling to make sense of wounds that don't seem to heal even with time. There is hope! Trauma is treatable. Getting treatment can lead to a better quality of life. Many clients with PTSD no longer meet criteria for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after two years of treatment.
I utilize a combination of EMDR and IFS. All trauma therapies are exposure therapies. The process is about helping the brain convert traumatic memories from short term to long term storage. Overall, I want clients to Increase their internal experiences of safety; and to grow in self-compassion and curiosity.
Surviving trauma can leave emotional burns that heal far better and faster with treatment. Trauma therapy can make the difference between a wound that's infected and a scar. While it can't, and doesn't, erase the memory of what's happened; it can drastically improve your quality of life.
