Therapy is a nurturing space to tell your story and get in touch with the many facets of yourself. My background of theater, comedy, and writing sparked a deep interest in my fellow humans and each of their unique stories. I welcome the opportunity to explore your story: What do you want? Which parts of yourself do you reveal to other people? And how would you like that story to change moving forward?

Sometimes we may be giving our all to something, hoping for a different result. When it doesn’t happen, these feelings can make us feel stuck and even overwhelmed. My role as a therapist is to give my clients the tools to achieve different ways of feeling and to start living in congruence with their authentic self.

I believe that therapy is a dynamic experience that can be extremely helpful for lots of people. The process of changing ones life for the better is often a difficult one that requires support and understanding. In my therapy practice I strive to be that supportive guide that many individuals need to get to the next level of existence. I believe that overcoming is not an event, it is a process. Whether one is overcoming depression, relationship issues, or traumatic life experiences, support and thoughtful guidance is often key in recovery.

Taking the first step into the world of therapy can feel daunting and overwhelming as it requires you to trust someone with your vulnerabilities and fears. This step also requires enormous strength. I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where I will work with you to achieve your goals and help create positive change in your life. While your situation may not feel hopeful now, we can work together to bring that hope back into your life.

My approach to therapy is integrative and is relationally focused. My lens is existential and focused on finding meaning in what seems to be an increasingly chaotic, meaningless world of information overload, technology, climate change, and social unrest. I believe that mental health goes beyond alleviating symptoms and that we have the capacity to experience greater joy, creativity, meaning, and fulfilling relationships in life. I have interest and experience working with those who identify as LGBTQ+, first-generation college students, and issues of grief, trauma, burnout, loneliness, isolation, career and life transitions.

Are you hoping for a therapist that can really help you with living a more satisfying life? Are you ready to stop struggling with anxiety? A key element to therapy that all my clients should feel is a comfort and safety in our sessions. I believe that is one of the keys to quality therapy and lasting change. I believe an essential catalyst to therapy is one's willingness to gently pull back the layers of their being to discover who they are at their core. Therapy is a collaborative process and I want to join all my clients as they take steps towards a life that is constantly moving towards emotional and physical well being.

Asking for help is a courageous first step toward making personally meaningful changes. I view therapy as a collaborative process that involves you and I working together to understand what has led you to this point, to explore what you would like to be different, and to begin to develop new ways of being.

In broad terms, anyone interested in Jungian psychology, the the theory and practice developed by Carl Jung, may resonate with my approach. We’ll talk through whatever you want, but I’ll also encourage you to delve beneath the surface. Specifically those who identify as Queer, those interested in the healing power of psychedelic medicines, those who identify as Christian and those interested in couple work may find value in my approach.

I've spent my entire professional life working with people who have trauma, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or a psychotic disorder. My clients are fighting a hard fight, and I value being in it with them. I called my web site "Audeo", which is Latin for "I dare", because my typical client needs some courage just to look up a therapist (or *another* therapist) and I respect it. When it was hard for you to show up for therapy, or use your coping skills, or get up today, you have my respect. You might be doing everything right when you don't feel right at all.

Renew. Revive. Restore. The decision to begin therapy is a brave one. Embarking on a journey of healing is an investment in one's self. I seek to partner with clients on their quest to better understand themselves, their relationships and their lives. In the confines of a respectful, nurturing relationship, clients heal from their past and create a new narrative in which they can thrive.

Therapy works when we click. That’s why I work to create an experience that is as warm and welcoming as it is challenging and real, where you feel uniquely and deeply understood. The path to that understanding can be hard work, but you might be surprised to find how much laughter and joy are a part of it, too. I believe that this kind of highly connected therapeutic relationship lets us dig in about the important things, setting the stage for development of insight, skills, vulnerability, and the kind of change that runs deep.

I believe the meaning we create from our experiences and environment plays a significant role in shaping how we navigate, adapt, and survive the world. My priority is that we cultivate a collaborative non-judgmental therapeutic relationship that centers on safety, positive regard, genuineness, and openness. Within this space, my clients will be able to freely explore their vulnerabilities, express distressful emotions (pain, grief, anger, etc.), make greater meaning out of their experiences, and redefine past experiences.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Chicago?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
