Does your anxiety get in the way of doing things? Would you like to improve your relationships with a partner, family, friends, or coworkers? Do you feel down, unmotivated, or not as interested in things as you used to be? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, there is hope! You are not alone in these experiences, and many people have changed their lives through therapy. Therapy is a journey that we take together. There are many paths we can choose from to go in the direction you desire. Everyone is different, and your path is tailored to your needs, preferences, and values.

Therapy is a place to be seen and known and invited to heal. A collaborative and safe environment paves the way to grow, accept challenges, and move toward lasting change. A therapist sits in the hard places with clients and equips and empowers them to reach their goals.

My passion as a therapist is to work with individuals to experience emotional, mental and spiritual freedom. Someone once asked me, ‘What would it look like for you to be free?’ I have learned that making the decision to turn toward painful experiences to process them paves the way of experiencing freedom. This first step is often scary, but the gain is much greater. My goal is to establish a strong therapeutic relationship with individuals built on honesty, trust and an unwavering alliance.

I work with children of all ages, and with all parent-child problems. Recent customer comments: "Thank you for your thoroughness in helping me." "You have a very calming manner." "This is the best place I've been to. I really mean it." "I trust your professionalism beyond anyone I've met so far." "You told me to go to AA and I finally went. It's really nice to wake up and not hate myself." "I definitely feel better when I leave here." "I like it that you don't just tell people what they want to hear. You give them real life advice."

Life can be so hard to maneuver sometimes. No one is immuned from difficulty, setbacks and hard times. Sometimes it's good to talk to someone that will listen and sit with you during such difficulties. I'd like to be that person. I've been married for 33 years. I have a 26 year old son and a 22 year old daughter. I'm a Desert Storm Vet. I also spent many years in the software sales industry before becoming a therapist. I feel this gives me some credibility in many situations so I'm not coming to the table with a lack of experience. In my spare time, I like to hunt, fish, golf, hike and most anything outdoors.

Hello, my name is Tiesha Gardner. I came into the beautiful world of counseling by way of education. I was an educator for 8 years. As an educator, students always found their way to me, students that I didn't even teach were seeking me for guidance, advice, or just simply a listening ear. It was then that I knew that God was leading me down a path to help people in a different way. As a therapist, I understand that there are times in our lives where we may find ourselves in a place or position that may be hard to come out of alone. The good news is that you are NOT alone, and that I would love to help you begin the process.

Do you ever question your self-worth? Are you ever overly harsh with yourself, or others? You're constantly over thinking about how you reacted or your relationships and wondering how to make them better. These problems leave you questioning yourself such as, am I the problem? Relationships are hard! Especially the one with ourselves. This can be caused by growing up in a highly critical environment, which leads to often battling with imposter syndrome, tending to be a perfectionist, or having a strong need for validation from others.

At times, we need perspective, support, and guidance to navigate the world in which we live. I believe there is something to learn from everyone and I would be honored to assist you or your loved one in the journey of self-discovery, growth, and healing. From a young age, I have always been passionate about helping others. My passion for people and connection led me to earning a degree in counseling. My journey was greatly impacted when I was personally diagnosed with cancer. Determined to help others see the same hope and healing, I wanted to use my experience to bring someone else out of their own darkness.

I enjoy working with people to help them build a strong sense of self, to encourage their confidence in relationships, and to help foster a sense of calm and security in their everyday life. I enjoy helping parents navigate the many challenges that come our way. I believe people seek therapy for many reasons: adjustment to a new city or life situation, feeling overwhelmed or stuck, or problems with relationships. Counseling is a process and that most of us could benefit from time to time at different stages in life, as it brings an outsiders perspective to events, we are faced with in day to day life in a nonjudgmental way.

Things seem dark; you may be overwhelmed, but you are not alone. I believe that our relationships shape and define us, as we come to know ourselves by being known. We can feel broken by relationships, but relationships also have the power to heal as we begin to experience ourselves in a new and powerful way. This is a tremendously vulnerable, scary, and exciting place to be. Sometimes it takes reaching the point of desperation to take this leap into new and unknown territory. Change is always possible, and there is no such thing as "too late", but it takes courage to begin.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Fort Worth?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
