RJ García is a Central Texan with over thirty-five years of serving the recovery community. RJ earned a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling from the world-renowned Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies at the Center City, Minnesota alcohol and drug addiction treatment center. HGSAS offered a unique curriculum that integrates theory, science and clinical practice. RJ is a member of the American Counseling Association. RJ is bilingual in both English and Spanish. I entered the field of counseling because of a desire to help those in crisis or who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. I realized I wanted to be a counselor while working at a local community college. I saw students who were struggling academically but were very bright. I came to understand that there are many factors that go into being successful at life. I have always had a helping nature but didn’t fully understand why people behaved they way they did. Through my education and experience I can now help people in their personal lives, relationships and careers.

Dealing with addiction can be very difficult and overwhelming to deal with alone. Addiction doesn't look the same for everyone but anyone can overcome addiction. Drug abuse and addiction problems can be devastating, not only to the individual but to the family as well. Knowing that you are not alone is the first step to ease your mind. Everyone with an addiction problem has their own story that should be individualized not judged but heard. Identifying the biological, environmental, behavioral, and social causes and consequences of drug use and addiction is just some of the steps that we will face together.
