When I begin a session with a new client, I want to present myself as a real person. I want to create a situation where the client feels comfortable being him/herself and communicating whatever is going on. I will observe closely, being as present as possible. I will listen carefully and respond when appropriate. I may ask questions or make interpretations about what we talk about, but most importantly I want the client to feel free to say whatever is on his/her mind. I want to establish a trusting relationship so we can begin to work on this person’s issues.

I have worked with children, families, individuals and couples in many different capacities before finding my calling as a therapist. I have specialized training in couples and marriage counseling, family counseling, PTSD/trauma, adoption and foster care, anxiety and depression, and other mental illness, life changes, grief and loss. I've been licensed since 2006. Much like a process of sharing, therapist and client together learn to pay close attention to aspects of yourself that you may be unable to touch on your own. I look for patterns in either behavior or thoughts. Also, while examining past family dynamics and reaching unconscious behavior, I link that information to how it affects our current lives. My background includes extensive addiction work in inpatient, outpatient and detox units. Currently I am doing telemedicine with couples, individuals and I run CBT and DBT addiction groups.

She graduated from University of Southern California with her master of social work and concentration in military and family issues. Her undergraduate is from Cal State University Northridge with a bachelor in public health education. Understanding the human body and mind connection has been a huge passion that began Deanna's journey to her profession in therapy. The ideal client is anyone who wants CHANGE, and is excited to learn more about themselves and willing to make efforts to better themselves.
