I view therapy as a collaborative process between myself and the individuals, couples, and families I work with. You have the unique knowledge of your life story and I have the training and experience of supporting people to resolve problems that have become too difficult to overcome in their lives. We use our knowledge and skills together to identify solutions that are right for you. When we combine your knowledge of your unique life circumstances with my experience in resolving a lot of similar problems like yours over 19 years of supporting people like you, we resolve issues far more quickly and effectively.

Something brought you here today—whatever it is, you deserve support. The effects of trauma, distress, or overwhelming events can surface in your daily life—impacting your emotions, relationships, and sense of self. You might find yourself caught in patterns of anxiety, low energy, disconnection, or emotional numbness, struggling to feel safe or fully present. These responses aren’t flaws or weaknesses—they're your mind and body’s way of coping and adapting. Healing is possible. With the right support, you can move beyond survival mode and reclaim a sense of safety, connection, and control in your life.

If you are here, it’s likely because you are in some state of struggle. Perhaps you are considering therapy for the first time and you are uncertain what to expect. Or maybe you are returning to therapy with a different purpose or goal. In either case, it’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed, uncomfortable, stuck or even defeated. However distressing your struggle may be, I suspect there is also a sense of hope… a feeling or wish that things could be better. That is where our work begins.

Having started working as a therapist 15 years ago, I continue to feel grateful to join clients on their pathway to healing. I believe that a relaxed, interactive, nonjudgmental, and empathic style leads to the most successful therapeutic outcomes. I often use a mix of cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma focused therapies, insight oriented therapy, and psychodynamic concepts. I find that a collaborative, team approach focused on solutions to the pain or discomfort in the "here and now" encourages emotional growth. I work with individuals 21 and older.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
