I am trained in Marriage and Family Therapy. My work is primarily with couples and the dance they create that is unique to them. Each couple is unique so I try to individualize the ongoing treatment. Families come in to clear up communication and better understand how each person fits into the family dance and how all the moving parts have to have a pattern that defines this family. Each family creates its own ballet!

July 24, 2024 - (Important: My availability remains mostly limited to coaching and private pay sessions at this time.) Most people I work with share concerns about what's wrong with them and that shows up as self blame, doubt, judgment and insecurity. I work frequently with adult men who experience ongoing symptoms related to attention deficit disorder.

I work with individuals in ME, MA, & NH who are committed to their recovery and looking for more structure than traditional outpatient therapy provides. Many have completed higher levels of care and want to maintain the progress they’ve made. They often feel that weekly therapy alone isn’t enough and are seeking consistency, accountability, and a way to actively apply recovery in daily life. My work supports continued momentum with a clear and structured approach.

Clients have described me as 'very professional but also friendly, laid back and not intimidating.' I work very collaboratively with clients to set goals and find strategies which will be most helpful to them. Some clients prefer to focus more on addressing painful symptoms and circumstances (depression, anxiety, relationships or work difficulties) while others may want to focus more on personal growth. I am more than happy to help clients with either area or both simultaneously, as they often go hand in hand and serve to increase happiness and satisfaction in daily life.

It is rarely easy to find a way out of whatever it is that is compromising our ability to be fully present in our own life. We might describe this powerful emotion as anxiety, or depression, a difficult mood we are in more often than not. We may also think of this feeling or mind state as an obstacle we must overcome before we can fully engage with other aspects of our life such as relationships, professional ambitions, creative projects. Perhaps we have a story of ourselves that remains untold, or partially told. A story which is a source of despair because of its untapped potential.

Each person is an expert on their own life, and my role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. At the heart of my practice is the understanding that meaningful change occurs when people feel truly supported and validated. When you feel heard and understood without judgment, it creates the foundation for healing and growth. I have seen how powerful it can be when someone finally feels seen for who they really are—struggles and all. From this place of acceptance and support, people naturally begin to access their own wisdom and resilience.

My clients often seek relief from anxiety, depression, ADHD, substance misuse, grief, or struggles adapting to major life changes. The therapeutic space we create together becomes a safe—if not always comfortable—place to explore what's worked before, what you'd like to change, and what that change can look like or mean for you. I am honored to work with you, and learn about your personal journey and goals. I have experience with a wide range of clients including military veterans and first responders, creative professionals, students, and the LGBTQ+ community.

I believe that therapy is an important tool that can be used to help an individual identify problems, develop a deeper understanding of the self, and achieve one’s aspirations. I utilize a person-centered therapeutic model and have a specialization in trauma. Also, I have expertise in addiction, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Existentialism, and Object Relations. Previously, I ran a psychiatry clinic which gives me a strong understanding of how to navigate the challenging psychiatric system. As a result, in addition to providing therapy, I can work with your psychiatrist to provide holistic treatment.

Is your life turning out the way you planned? Are your personal relationships fulfilling? Are you finding the right job for you? Do people get who you really are? Too often we lose track of the way we exist each day. Depression over past mistakes or anxiety about what might happen in the future prevent us from being who we want to be in the present. The goal of existential counseling is to help you develop a better relationship with your "self" first, and then to improve your relationships with others. To help you gain more confidence in the decisions you make daily and to worry less about how others will judge you in the future.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
