I specialize in providing treatment for a number of therapeutic issues such as marital conflict, stress, depression , anxiety, panic attacks, anger management, conflict resolution and sexual addictions.
I like to do a lot of listening and to provide emotional support prior to making any suggestions. Also, I have found that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a very effective component to counseling because it helps clients to identify habitual coping strategies that he/she has been employing that have helped to reduce stress in the past but now cause all sorts of problems. In addition to providing emotional support, I will help you to be mindful of these tendencies and practice replacing the thoughts (and the behaviors associated with them) with strategies that will help you live a happier, life.

Clients have described me as 'very professional but also friendly, laid back and not intimidating.' I work very collaboratively with clients to set goals and find strategies which will be most helpful to them. Some clients prefer to focus more on addressing painful symptoms and circumstances ( depression , anxiety, relationships or work difficulties) while others may want to focus more on personal growth. I am more than happy to help clients with either area or both simultaneously, as they often go hand in hand and serve to increase happiness and satisfaction in daily life.

We try to take care of ourselves, connect with supportive people, and make good decisions - but being alive can be overwhelming at times - losses of health, loved ones, our sense of balance. When this happens we may feel depressed or anxious. Sometimes it helps to just slow things down and look at what's going on with curiosity rather than judgment. It might be time to take a step back to look at what your goals are, what obstructs you enjoying your life more and getting satisfaction from your relationships. Look at creating new meaning from your experiences.

I specialize in working with individuals managing depression , anxiety, and those seeking to change unhealthy patterns.
In these hectic times, we sometimes find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from loved ones, or "stuck" and unsure about where we are headed. Some of us even struggle with past trauma that continues to define our present. As a therapist my responsibility is to provide a safe and supportive environment promoting awareness, cultivating strengths, and encouraging lasting change. My clients would describe me as warm, genuine, non-judgmental, open, and motivating. My style draws upon an experience range including solution-focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

I help people who are breaking under the unbearable weight of self-doubt, grief, people-pleasing, shame, anxiety, and depression so they can finally experience the freedom to express their needs, feel safe in relationships, adjust to profound loss, and change negative patterns in their lives.
You’re starting to feel like an outsider in your own life and struggling to show up as the person you know you can be. You have years worth of emotional wounds that just won't heal. You have gotten so good at stuffing the feelings of hurt, shame, and disappointment that now you struggle to feel anything at all. You’re breaking under the unbearable weight of your life experiences. My clients come to me when they are in pain and ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. The first step toward change can be scary.

My expertise includes relationship, LGBT, depression , anxiety, trauma, and addiction issues.
Therapy is a place to explore how you feel, think, and live in the present, which is influenced by your past. The core beliefs and feelings we hold about ourselves are the key to how we live our lives. When these beliefs are negative they lead to unhappiness and feeling stuck. This may come from past and present experiences, dysfunctional habitual patterns or distressing event(s). We are extremely loyal to the familiar, even when it is not working. Finding someone to talk to about your most private life requires an environment of safety built on trust and confidentiality.

You may want things to change in your life but don't know where to begin. Perhaps you struggle with depression , anxiety, relationship difficulties, or just a pervasive sense of feeling stuck--going through the motions of living. Where did this begin? How do you put the pieces together to move forward? I believe an inner exploration of your feelings will provide a path to calming the confusion and fear. Possibilities will be opened up and you will have choices. I believe these changes occur within the therapeutic relationship.

Common presenting issues include depression , anxiety, grief and loss, relationships, mid-life crisis, and existential/spiritual concerns.
I have 25 years of experience providing psychological services to adults in the greater Portland area. Originally trained in psychodynamic and humanistic models of therapy, I have subsequently received training in Gestalt therapy and more recently in mindfulness based cognitive models. Within the context of the therapeutic relationship, we will focus on developing awareness of behavioral patterns, beliefs, and emotions which contribute to difficulties in daily living. With developing awareness, you can begin to implement changes consistent with your values and goals

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
