I understand the immobilization and feelings of shame inherent with anxiety , OCD, low self-esteem, and depression.
NOTICE: due to practice being full, I am on a temporary hold from taking new clients. Thanks for your patience and understanding. We all have the capacity to experience more meaning and joy in our lives. I love helping clients move beyond their blocks to reach their own ability to find theirs. Every client is unique: having different needs, learning styles and histories. My goal is to honor the client's individual needs to find the most effective and appropriate approach in handling their treatment.

Clients have described me as 'very professional but also friendly, laid back and not intimidating.' I work very collaboratively with clients to set goals and find strategies which will be most helpful to them. Some clients prefer to focus more on addressing painful symptoms and circumstances (depression, anxiety , relationships or work difficulties) while others may want to focus more on personal growth. I am more than happy to help clients with either area or both simultaneously, as they often go hand in hand and serve to increase happiness and satisfaction in daily life.

As an EMDR Certified Therapist, I help clients find relief from trauma and associated patterns of anxiety and depression that may present as dysfunctional or challenging relationships, perfectionist & people-pleasing tendencies, fear of rejection, shame, low self-esteem, or feeling like an imposter or outsider. These issues can stem from something that happened, like emotional/physical abuse, neglect, abandonment, or mistreatment, or what didn't happen, like not being protected, heard, understood, or supported. Often rooted in interpersonal injuries with caregivers, friends, school, or society, these issues can be insidious.

With 20 year's experience, I have helped clients take a deeper, more insightful look at thought and behavioral patterns that hold them back from positive relationships, fulfilling careers, and a compassionate, worthy sense of self. Anxiety , depression, and other mental health challenges are often the result of suppressing our authentic voice because of fear of rejection, abandonment, and self-loathing. We rediscover our genuine, original self by leaning into our fear of rejection, letting go of false beliefs about self and developing beliefs and new behaviors that are more empowering and in line with who we really are.

I specialize in providing treatment for a number of therapeutic issues such as marital conflict, stress, depression, anxiety , panic attacks, anger management, conflict resolution and sexual addictions.
I like to do a lot of listening and to provide emotional support prior to making any suggestions. Also, I have found that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a very effective component to counseling because it helps clients to identify habitual coping strategies that he/she has been employing that have helped to reduce stress in the past but now cause all sorts of problems. In addition to providing emotional support, I will help you to be mindful of these tendencies and practice replacing the thoughts (and the behaviors associated with them) with strategies that will help you live a happier, life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
